Re: Interviewing in Braces

That's great to hear!! I am in college right now, and that is one of the big issues that has kept me from getting braces again. I tend to be a bit self conscious, so I have always been worried about how a male college senior, trying to enter the business world would be perceived. It's always good to...

Re: Do you & can you eat with your retainers on?

I've only had essix retainers, but I can tell you from experience, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS. I tried once, and it didn't exactly end well. Days later I was still picking food out of them...

Re: Sleeping with Essix Retainers

I actually came up with kind of a makeshift solution for clenching with essix retainers in. I still wear a top one at night and I was having issues, so I decided to try moulding a mouthguard around it, and it worked for me! Obviously I don't know if that would be a solution for anyone else, but I've...

Re: So hard to talk with retainer in

I was only told to wear mine during the day for two weeks, but during that time, I never felt comfortable talking or even having them really. I do still wear a thicker one on my upper teeth at night, 6 years later, and I can speak clear as day with that one (I would hope that'd be the case). So I ca...

Re: Are there different kinds of essix retainers?

I'm not sure of the exact thickness of mine, but I received a pair of thin, barely noticeable ones to wear during the day and a slightly thicker pair for nights just after removal. After a few months, I broke my upper night essix, and my ortho gave me an even thicker one that gave me lots of trouble...

Re: Perfectly fitting Essix is assurance of teeth staying pu

I wouldn't count on that necessarily. Sure, if you wear them full-time, your teeth should stay pretty well, but from my experience, nighttime wear isn't always enough. I wore my bottom retainer almost every night, and my teeth are still relatively straight, but it wasn't enough to keep them perfect.

Re: Long term use of retainers

I still have an upper essix retainer that I've been wearing on and off for the past 6 years, but it's one that the ortho made particularly thick for long-tern nighttime wear. Essentially all the others that I've had have broken after 2-3 years max, but I would assume that if they're not broken or co...

Re: Edge to Edge Bite - Surgery?

I am currently in the same situation as you. When relaxed, my jaw naturally wants to be almost in an underbite position. I had braces as a teenager, but I think just due to natural growth patterns, my jaw kept on growing. I feel like surgery could potentially be an option, but unfortunately probably...

In college, braces for the second time?

Hi Everyone! To start off, my name is Chris, I am 21 years old and a college student. I previously had braces as a young teenager to fix a crossbite and straighten my teeth (i believe, I didn't really pay all that much attention at the time). A couple of years later, I had my wisdom teeth removed, b...
