The dentist told me at age 5 that I would need braces, but they didn't go on until age 14. Had upper and lower metal brackets with elastics for about 18 months. Have started seeing the ortho again at 27 to have my lower retainer adjusted, and trying to wear it full time.

Good luck facing the home stretch with braces! I'm curious about the build-ups you speak of.. I too suffer from grinding but have never worn a splint/nightguard for it, and also wear retainers while sleeping. What modifications will be made to your retainers?
