Re: Opening jaw normally after orthognathic surgery?
I was never given any exercises to do, and I am now 5 months post op and have almost 100% of my mobility back. It is not perfect, but doesn't cause issues unless I am at the dentist and they ask me to open wide (I can't!)... I too was in very tight elastics, which likely contributed to my mobility r...

Re: Not wearing rubber bans after double jaw surgery.
Yes; I was not in rubber bands for the first week post op, but I was required to visit my surgeon weekly for 6 weeks. At my first visit he noticed my jaw shifting off to the side, and he wired me shut. I was in the wires for 1 week, and 1 week after they were removed my bite started shifting again, ...

Re: considering orthognathic surgery (photos included)
It was yes; Are you in the states? I was lucky because orthognathic surgery is listed as a covered benefit in my benefit booklet for my insurance company. I just had to go through the process of proving it was medically necessary, which involved sending records from my surgeon, previous orthodontist...

Re: considering orthognathic surgery (photos included)
Thank you :)...the swelling you see is what I have been obsessing over as of lately, but my dentist thinks its because i've had SO many procedures in such a short amount of time. You shouldn't have an issue getting insurance approval...mine was approved, it just took longer than i would have liked. ...

Re: considering orthognathic surgery (photos included)
Hi, yes. I had a bilateral sagittal split osteotomy on my lower mandibular as well as genioplasty. By 10mm overbite I mean overjet. By day 14 post op, half of the feeling on the right side of my lip had returned. From there I slowly regained the feeling in my chin on my right side. At 9 weeks post o...

Re: Were you physically sick after your jaw op?
I never vomited, although I felt a little bit nauseous often. Anytime I felt any slight discomfort in that area, I paged the nurse & asked for Zofran/Phenergan. The best medicine I was ever sent home with was ODT Zofran. It does not put you to sleep like Phenergan does, and addresses your nausea...

Re: How long off work?
I did not have double jaw surgery, but I had lower. I was not banded shut until 1 week post op, and then it only lasted for a week. I had surgery on a Tuesday, spent that night in the hospital, and returned to work the next Monday. I did not take off enough time AT ALL. I was exhausted and pushing m...

Re: Discouraged - Multiple Surgeries - Swelling???
No not at all. My understanding is that those are a common complication from having stitches, being numb, and biting when you can't feel.

Re: considering orthognathic surgery (photos included)
Hi, I am 5 months post op orthognathic surgery. I had a 10 mm overbite and I was extremely self conscious about it. I had braces at the age of 14 and relapsed. I am in the middle of complications (infection & lose plates, infected salivary gland, and root canal) all as a result of the surgery. I...

Discouraged - Multiple Surgeries - Swelling???
Hi, I had orthgnathic surgery on my lower jaw and genioplasty on September 25th, 2012. I developed an infection and new swelling in November, and underwent plate removal and infection drainage on November 30th, 2012. I then developed an abscessed tooth and underwent a root canal on December 11th, 20...
