Re: SARPE Surgery

This makes alot more sense. The hospital charged you basically $5,510. The big number $28,869 is there to force people into getting insurance. The hospital will charge you that in case you don't have insurance, the $5,510 is the negotiated rate with your insurance.

My hospital charged me $7,910.

Re: SARPE Surgery

manlymatt83, see my answers: 1) Have you really not noticed much of a change in your facial features? You say a wider face. Is it that noticeable? Would your close friends notice? I realize you like the change, but for someone who may not like the change, I could see that being bad :( I am not sure ...

Re: SARPE Surgery

manlymatt83, I was in the same boat as you, good looking teeth but bad bite and had braces as a kid (Ortho then didn't expand my jaw neither!). I m 28 single guy and in shape, so the decision to go through this was tough but now that I m already 5 months in, I tell ya it ain't bad at all. First, (an...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Chadly, congrats on ur surgery and I m glad it went smooth but nose bleeding stopping in the afternoon is mighty fast! Good for you.. My nose bleed stopped after 2 days - wasn't too bad on the second day. And I too didn't have much pain just a tension sensation. The speech mumble you mention should ...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Chadly, how did your surgery go? Hope everything went well for you! There shouldn't be much speech impediment from the surgery. The expander is what causes the speech impediment, so if you are used to speaking with the RPE then you won't have any further speech issues from the surgery itself. john12...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Congrats on your surgery. Glad you are feeling better. It should be down hill from there. An update on my gap, it has been closing freakishly fast. The ortho said it should close 1mm a month but it is closing 1mm every 1-2 weeks. I most now little less than 4.5mm from all high 9.5mm. Cheers, Goofy

Re: Elastics

I have the same exact elastics. Gotta keep drinking water I guess :D. Also, before you put the elastics on, wash them with some water.

Hope this helps.

Good luck,
Goofy

Re: SARPE Surgery

andygoodyear, welcome to this thread. I m not sure about the details of your case but mine expansion was more on the right side than the left side, which is good for me because the cross bite was on my right side. Also, my incisors kinda came down more after the surgery. I asked my ortho about it co...

Re: SARPE vs LeFort I

Generally I don't think a SARPE can be used to fix an underbite. However, in my case and I have read other people say that, SARPE do bring the upper teeth/jaw forward a little bit. I m not sure how this would translate in your case but you can definitely consult with an Ortho. Also, try to find a sp...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Finally I got some time to write this update.. So I went to the Ortho for my 2nd appointment last Wednesday 3/27 and here are the changes he made: 1. Put thinker wires on upper and lower (I guess more push/pull) 2. Put a chain on the upper incisors to close the gap. 3. Tied the upper left teeth toge...

Re: SARPE Surgery

I was nervous too when I got my braces on, but surprisingly they don't like as bad as I thought.. I kinda like them :D The ceramic braces they are almost invisible, I had to point out to some people that I have braces on because they couldn't see them. Plus, dude, you are in college, couple of beers...

Re: SARPE vs LeFort I

Hi LayraM45, I m glad to help in any way possible. I know it is a hard decision to make - the whole what to do and how to do it? Here are my 2 cents in the matter. The ortho should know if you need an expansion and it seems like there is an agreement that you do. The ortho should be the one telling ...
