Thanks for replying! I actually called the Ortho and he said I would be ok for a few days without wearing the retainers.

But now my gums are healed enough and I have started wearing my retainers again. I'm feeling much better!

How long can I NOT wear my retainers without shifting?

Hi all! I got my braces off about 2 weeks ago and have been a faithful retainer wearer since I got them. BUT, I just had my wisdom teeth removed on Friday and the retainer (essix) really bothers my wisdom teeth sockets that are trying to heal. I have been trying to wear them only at night since the ...

Whats the difference in Essix retainers & Invisalign?

I mean, I know the Essix is meant to keep the teeth from moving and the Invisalign is meant to actually move the teeth, but are they made of the same material? It seems like my Essix retainer is so thin and I'm afraid they are going to allow my teeth to move. In fact, I think one of my bottom teeth ...

Amazing! Aren't you glad you did it ? Oh yea, so glad! So, what did you eat after they came off? Popcorn! Not that I didn't break the rules and still eat it when I had braces, but its so much better when you don't have to spend 30 minutes cleaning out the kernals. To everyone else that replied with...

overseasmel - Yes, the tongue should touch the roof of the mouth when you swallow and when at rest.

CanehdianGal - I am trying to correct it using tongue exercises that my Orthodontist gave me. He also referred me to a speech therapist, but I can't afford her (doesn't take insurance). Sometimes I think that the braces are what caused me to have the tongue thrust. I never had an open bite until AFT...

Has anyone corrected their tongue thrust?

I have been trying to correct my tongue thrust for several months now. I think I'm going good and not doing it anymore and then I go to the Orthodontist and he says "Nope, you're still doing it" :( Now, I'm scheduled to get my braces off on Monday  (I'll be sure to post before and ...

I got braces as a recommendation from my TMJ doctor, who told me under absolutely no circumstances should I let them extract any teeth. Most of the Ortho's I visited with said I would need extrations. So I searched until I found an Ortho who would do my treatment without extractions. So, I guess tha...

I'll soon join this club too - well 3 months from now - but, still, compared to how long I've had these braces, 3 months is soon.

I want to know about whitening too.

3 More Months!!

I am so excited. I just got back from my next to last adjustment!! The Ortho told me that my next appointment in 6 weeks will be my last appointment before getting the braces off. In 6 weeks, they will do my final evaluation and then I'll get my braces off 4-8 weeks after that. Just wanted to share ...

My 2 cents - DONT HAVE EXTRACTIONS!!! This was told to me by my Oral surgeon who I trust completly. I had severe TMJ and my jaw was completely locked. I had numerous consults with oral surgeons, all who said I needed jaw surgery. One the day before surgery, I had one last consultation with this guy....

Thanks everyone for sharing in the joy of my new family and for all of your nice comments, they have been very helpful. We still haven't made a decision. I'm going to wait until my next adjustment (in less than 2 weeks) and see what comes of that.

Want to share my story/Need Support

Hi all! I only post from time to time so many of you probably don't know me, but I have the most amazing story to tell. Quick background - I grew up as an only child and my husband has one brother. 2 years ago, his brother was killed in a car accident, at the age of 20. I won't go into the details o...
