Re: Post op and struggling hard.

Bummer. I had a younger (14 years old) female patient recently who had a hard time getting the bone to heal after an ankle fracture. Surgeon just said it was bad luck/poor genetics or something. Congrats though on quitting the cigs. In my experience, most patients that repeatedly fail an orthopedic ...

Re: Post op and struggling hard.

Sorry to hear the bad new Scraggy. Hang in there! I'm curious as to why you are having such a hard time healing. Are you diabetic, or a tobacco user?

Re: Insurance Claim from Out of Network Assistant Surgeon

Call your insurance and have them straighten it out. If you used an in-network hospital and your surgeon was in-network, then everything else should be covered in-network, IMO. Similar thing happended to me with my surgery, as my primary surgeon and hospital were in-network, but the assisting surgeo...

Re: time off after surgery?

How much time you need off really depends on the type of work you do. No matter what your job though, I would recommend at least 1 week off. Your body needs that time to rest and heal, and you will be very busy just trying to consume enough calories if you have to eat everything through a syringe, l...

Good luck Scraggy. IDK if you are a religious person, but I'll keep you in my prayers.

Re: Post op and struggling hard.

Damn dude, that really sucks. It's really a shame the way your doctor has treated you. My doc has been the complete opposite. He saw me once a week in his office for the first 7 weeks after surgery. One day, during week 6, I had a sudden increase in swelling and he immediately had me come into his o...

Re: Is this normal? Post double jaw surgery.

It's probably normal. I would notice changes in swelling from time-to-time. It would be going down steadily and then all of a sudden, I'd wake up in the morning with more swelling on one side (also by the nose, where the plates are). I think it was from the position I slept in. However, I also exper...

Yes, this is normal. They never do a SARPE and Lefort together.

Re: Advice from athletes

Update: I hit the 6 week post-op mark a few days ago. I had a sudden increase in localized swelling at my right side mandible, about where the plates are for the BSSO. I called the doc and he got me into the office that evening for an exam and x-ray. He said everything looked good and nothing was lo...

Re: What to expect out of the first consultation.

This sounds hard to believe, but the final surgical plan (what's going to move by how much) is usually not "fixed" until just a few weeks before your surgery. The final decision on only doing a single jaw was made three weeks before my surgery date. The precise movements that will be made...

Re: Starting to get scared

Here's the best advice I can give you: go exercise. Seriously, go to the gym, ride a bike, go hiking, go for long walks, trim some shrubs or mow the lawn, whatever. You have a lot of built up anxiety and energy and exercise will help you get rid of that and clear your mind. It will help, trust me.

Re: Starting to get scared

It's just anxiety. Nothing to really worry about. For some reason I was very calm before surgery, more excited than anything. I just wanted to get it over with. I had 100% confidence in my surgeon, so I think that helped a lot. I also read a lot of blogs and posts here, so I knew basically what to e...

Re: So many questions :/

I think a lot of us have been in your position. I think you will find that most of us here have had surgery (or are going to in the near future), since this is a surgery section of this forum. Your case sounds very similar to mine. 5 years ago (at age 29) I finally got the courage to see an orthodon...
