Re: Dating with braces

I'm 23 and it'll be a year next week since I've had my braces. Honestly, if anything my dating life (mostly casual) has improved since I got them! Perhaps since my teeth are no longer overlapping unattractively? Who knows!

Re: Confess your orthodontic sins.

String flossing? What's that? My Waterpik is my lover, thank you very much. Also, there was no way I was giving up chips. Popcorn actually hurts to eat though so I avoid that mostly.

Three hail Marys coming right up.

Re: Waterpik yes or no?

I agree with everyone. The Waterpik is a great investment. Now I have both the portable and larger model, but I use the larger model 95% of the time. At first I only had the portable version, and I was hesitant to use it again after the strong stream left my gums bleeding on first use. Turns out thi...

Re: What are you thinking about right now?

I can't wait until this palatal expander comes out of my mouth. Right now it's 5x harder to eat!

Also, happy Hump Day! It's super hot in DC right now, but I can't even complain. Ah, summer!

Re: Oh god, just got them on today, oh god oh man oh god

Val - welcome and congrats on your braces! Your story is very similar to mine. I finally had the moola after college to get braced, so I did. It'll be a month on the 24th. I have metal on both the top and bottom, and my date last weekend said that he liked how my braces looked :) . Trust me, both yo...

Re: Fastest time from consultation to braces?

I think I hold the record for the longest time. :P @SunshineRay, I bet I have you beat! But in all actuality, it took from I believe mid-October of last year to June 24, 2013 from initial consultation to get both of my arches braced. Yes, 8 months, believe it or not. Granted, I'm an atypical...

Re: SARPE Surgery

It has been almost 2 months to the day past my SARPE. I've improved a LOT since. I'd like to post pictures, but, forgive my ignorance, am not quite sure how to do it on here yet unless I link to an external site. I'll figure it out when I can for anyone who'd like to see my progress. Life has certai...

Re: Anybody look in the mirror and not recognize yourself?

That's just how fate works, I guess! It's a great opportunity and tomorrow is the last interview date available, so I'm not going to turn it down. As of today, I can speak coherently enough that I'm sure they'll understand me after I explain my situation. My friend said it'd be a good ice breaker! A...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Hi All! My SARPE surgery (and wisdom teeth removal) was last week Thursday the 16th. On the whole, it went very well! There was the very weird sensation of my maxilla moving around post-op, but I had no pain. The surgeon also told my mom there was minimal bleeding, and I didn't need to use gauze onc...

Re: Anybody look in the mirror and not recognize yourself?

bmueller - thanks for the encouragement. I saw my orthodontist and oral surgeon today, and they said the residual swelling is normal, and looks better than what they typically see at my stage of recovery! So that's a good thing I suppose. I still look weird, but as long as I return to how I normally...

Re: Anybody look in the mirror and not recognize yourself?

It's almost 4 days post-surgery and I'm also still waiting (somewhat impatiently!) for the swelling to go down. I look very strange right now.

Re: SARPE vs LeFort I

Thank you so much for the explanations! This board great. is I probably should have looked at this thread earlier; it would have saved me from looking like a fool in front of my oral surgeon's office manager! I got my SARPE surgery done three days ago (Thursday the 16th - more information on that to...
