1 Month Post Op!

I'm 1 month post op. Recovery has been smooth. I've lost 1 stitch and had a day where swelling increased but went back down the next day. Numbness: I've regained feeling under my eyes and my nose. I'm almost 90% in those areas. Most of my upper lip is at 100%. I'm waiting on the left side, it's at 3...

Re: Post-op tips

Wow, you made it longer than I. I think by Day 5 I was disgusted by the liquid food or maybe it was because my family was bringing over things that SHOULDN'T be liquified. It turned my stomach. I'm glad you're regaining strength in your jaw! I did the same things with ice cream, early on. I bought a...

Re: Overjet, surgery only on lower jaw?

My upper jaw was moved about 4mm forward and I think slightly up, but not by much. I haven't been able to master the art of smiling yet. I'm still learning how to do a closed mouth smile and I think it's mostly due to the fact that the insides of my mouth are still a little swollen and my brackets h...

Re: May 2013 Lower BSSO Surgery!

You don't wear them at night? Wow! I would be too scared to do that. I used to grind my teeth at night and would probably injure myself. I had 3 spasms yesterday and I noticed they happened when I was using my jaw the most. Yesterday was quite an active day - maybe that contributes to the condition?

Re: Overjet, surgery only on lower jaw?

I had an overjet and an overbite but surgery was on both the lower and upper jaw. I had all 4 premolars removed (1 was removed when I was a kid - my parents decided against removing the additional 3 teeth). I had the 3 additional teeth removed last year to make room in my mouth. Here's my blog with ...

Re: Post-op tips

I'm allowed a soft food diet, but no chewing. Just swallowing soft things: macaroni, yogurt, rice... My surgeon says when we chew, it's like applying 1000 pounds of force which our broken jaws can't handle.

How much longer are you on the liquid diet for?

Re: May 2013 Lower BSSO Surgery!

How often do the spasms happen? I experienced a few on my left side that woke me up. I haven't had any for the past week ...I hope that continues!

Re: Overbite ...

Personally, when my bite was made worse, it also happened quite quickly. After that, then the movement was quite small and it was small shifts here and there.

Hang in there.

Re: Post-op tips

I think on Day 5, I was dreaming of walking down aisles of food at a grocery store and deciding on what I wanted to eat! Are you still on a liquid diet or have you been given the ok for soft foods yet?

I turned 35 the day before surgery! Surgery was May 7th. How is everyone doing so far with recovery?

Re: Is jaw surgery worth it for me?

It depends. My orthodontist who specializes in TMJ told me that if I didn't do anything to fix my bite to help my TMJ, that I could possibly end up not only a dental handicap but a medical one as well. The way he saw it was that overtime the joints give out and then you have to get the joints replac...

Re: kaiser docs

Do you have to stay in Anaheim? I know of a good surgeon, Dr. Londo, that works with Kaiser in San Diego. My friend had surgery with him and my orthodontist does a lot of work with him. He sends all his Kaiser patients there. My orthodontist is supposed to be "world-renowned" and has taugh...

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?

I have Blue Cross Anthem (CA). I was also approved quite easily for both lower and upper jaw. I only had the upper jaw moved 4mm, lower jaw was moved forward/rotated 15mm and I had a genio (had to pay out of pocket) moved 4mm. The insurance company saw that the genio was cosmetic even though my surg...
