ang,
I did have my SARPE before I got prego. Thank goodness.... but I think if I'd been prego before the surgery, I would have started treatment, just to get things going. That's a hard decision though. I hope things work out. So how far along are you?

ang, I'm pregnant too. I'm about 21 weeks along right now. I have a 6 year old and a 18 month old. I'm due August 16, 2006. It's been interesting having braces on and being sick. Thankfully, I'm finally over the nausea part. Good luck with deciding on what to do. I'd start working on it now, that wa...

Man, so many things have happened since I've been away. Congrats to those who under gone SARPE, and to those who've made such progress. Kate, your smile looks amazing! As does DM's. I've had quite the adventure too. The gap is finally closed, we started working on it in December, and it closed prett...

Rachel, Congrats on the surgery. I was not so swollen the first day, but every day after that I swelled. I looked like one of the planet of the ape people. My nose and cheeks swelled so bad that I got black eyes! But it was all worth it and I can look back and the pictures and be really glad I'm ove...

Hey everyone, When I checked in today, there were so many posts! I seem to be getting really busy as the holidays approach and I don't have as much time to check in as I used to. Anyways, Kate, your progress is amazing! Yours and DM's smiles give me hope. Rachel, my gap was about 7mm wide. It was hu...

Hi everyone, Good luck with your surgery Rachel. I had some ups and downs like DM, crying one minute and glad that the surgery was over the next. You'll be glad to get it over with and move on. Please let us know how it goes. DM, your teeth look so beautiful! There is hope for me after all! To compa...

Hi Kate, Getting the expander out was an ordeal, but it's over now and I'm getting better each day. I will wear the TPA permanently (sp) until March or so, and then they'll remove it. It's far easier to adjust to than the expander. I don't slurp anymore and I can eat! I'm jealous that your gap is cl...

Hey guys, DM, the process was so brutal because my teeth were so extremely sensitive. I don't know why, and the ortho didn't know why either. But to even touch my teeth KILLED! The expander was so hard to remove because the cementing agent they used really glued the bands to my teeth. They ortho use...

Hello Kate and DM, I just got back from my follow up with the oral surgeon. He took an x-ray of my mouth to see how the bone is growing and filling in. As of right now, there hasn't been any bone growth. He said that it should start to grow and fill in between the gap, but to give it more time since...

Rkorn, I had SARPE surgery in August. I have pictures of before, but I don't know how to post them. I was told by an oral surgeon and an orthodontist that palatal expansion in an adult without surgery is difficult because the palatal bones have fused together. Surgery was my only option...in order t...

DM, Thanks for the support. Now that the "facts" have set in, 6 months will go by fast. I mean, it's already been 6 weeks since the surgery. So, I'm trying to be positive. I don't know how the whole braces thing and closing the gap works. But it didn't sound like the gap would be closing u...

sillikitti, I had upper jaw surgery in August...I don't know much about lower jaw surgery. As far as my recovery went, I took 10 days off of work and felt fine. I didn't have much pain, but the pain I did have felt really achey. As far as your hospital stay and anesthesia goes...I just felt really t...

Hello all, DM, you're getting braced today! I hope all goes well. You'll have to let us know how it goes. I went to the ortho yesterday. I can finally stop turning, but I have to wait a few more weeks before he lets the gap close. He said the bone has to fill in the gap before they can start moving ...

Hey everyone, DM you were wondering how many turns of the expander, well today marks the 28th turn...I still have 8 more to go...the gap is bigger than ever. At the ortho's on Friday it was almost 6mm...so it'll be HUGE when I stop. Not much pain from expanding. It just feels tight and I feel some p...
