Re: Depression and coping with braces

Exactly as JayC said, consider the long-term discomfort of having wanted and waited for braces for so long vs the short-term pains. I don't think any of us are qualified to weigh them for you but for most of us we are zeroed in on getting that improved look and function at the end of treatment. You'...

Re: Let the Journey Begin....

Glad you decided to go ahead with treatment sooner rather than later. And thanks for sharing pictures - I've been told all the wires look crazy at first but it all starts moving into place bit by bit. Just with my expander so far, I've woken up at night or early morning with a tense jaw. It was neve...

Re: Starting on the long road...

A mini-update. One of the tads is no longer attached to the expander, and I had some pain from my expander squeezing the gum against my teeth. But a week of letting it sit still seems to have greatly helped the swelling and they decided to have me keep turning for now. They took another cone beam x-...

Re: is it possible that my expander will break my jaw?

Give us an update if you can! How are you doing, how many turns have you done so far? Everyone's experience will be different and different orthodontists will have different treatment plans and success rates. I'm 28 and was told my ortho had about a 50/50 success rate with palate expanders around my...

Re: Braces after 50 OMG!

Just caught up and boy does your story sound familiar. I'm younger and only have my expander in right now but taking a half hour to clean and not even for the actual teeth -- what fun braces are going to be!

Good luck! :jump:

Re: Starting on the long road...

Wow, just when I thought I had a crazy enough time. First I'll just touch on how I'm doing, then just document my my many, many visits. I think I've mostly adapted to talking with the expander. I'll still have some issues - if food gets stuck up there, I have to clean it out or I might sound like th...

Re: Starting on the long road...

I am back, with kinda a crazy week. My TADs went well, learned to chew even with screws on the top of my mouth and they seem to be stable. I went in to get my RPE (palatal expander). They warned me that the most difficult part of the day would be explaining and getting me to be able to turn my own e...

Re: Sunshiney Saga

Wow! What a lot of insanity. I just caught up, so proud of you for pushing through even after the ordeal trying to get your extractions/implants figured out. And the TADs pain - I can only imagine, it sounds like they didn't have you numbed up enough. My TADs were in the roof of the mouth but only p...

Starting on the long road...

Hello, I'm the new girl with the funny teeth. Why am I getting braces? Well, first I'd be lying if I said I wasn't self-conscious about my teeth. But it's not just cosmetic, flossing is ineffective or difficult between certain teeth. My new Waterpik has helped a lot and it's a great device but I'd r...

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?

Treatment started at 28, and if all goes well I'll be looking to get them off when I'm about 30-31. So wish I had started sooner but I'd rather do it now than wait any longer!
