I raise the whole concern about lots of blood in stomach to my surgeon and he said that at the end of the surgery, he sucks the blood out before the patient wakes up. Hopefully that helps? I wonder if this is standard practice?

Sounds like Kaiser is the way to go for you. =( Wouldn't try to fight your current insurance if it's specifically listed as an exclusion

I also have BCBS and i believe my case is approved based on skeletal deformity. I don't really have a severe "functional problem" (i.e. I can chew food fine) but my surgeon did say he considers my case as medically necessary because my jaws aren't where they are supposed to be. Your case s...

I also had a really tough time getting estimates. I find that independent surgeons are usually more willing to provide a rough estimate up front (i.e. private practices) whereas surgeons in hospitals tend not to do that -- red tapes in big hospitals, presumably. My ortho only places brackets and makes quick checks on the progress. The assistant pretty much does everything else..
