Re: Hawley retainer clasps creating gaps?
This is hysterical, when I wrote my reply recently I didn't recall that I am the one who stared this thread over two years ago, nor did I re-read my original post. A shame one can't delete one's posts...so embarrassing.

Re: Hawley retainer clasps creating gaps?
I had this same problem with traditional hawleys, particularly with the lower arch gaps opening up. So I got wraparound Hawleys and that solved the problem: the essix didn't close the gaps up. Hello all, I notice that one end of the labial bow on my lower Hawley is causing a slight gap between my te...

Re: Anyone have a positioner in between braces and retainers?
I got a positioner in conjunction with wraparound top and bottom Hawley retainers and so far, just over 3 months later, everything is exactly how they need to be. In fact, at my retainer check appointment last week, my ortho basically said everything looks great and that I no longer need to see him ...

Re: Anyone have a bonded retainer AND a hawley?
I have a permanent on my lower front 6 teeth, an upper and lower wraparound Hawley, and a positioner that acts like an Essix in that it covers each individual tooth. The Hawleys must be doing their job because the positioner still fits like a glove. With my prior relapse issues, I'm not taking any c...

Re: Anyone else regret their ceramics?
Hi Samoorelaw, well last Friday I had my appointment for my top ceramic brackets to be replaced with the Damon metal ones the same as I have on the bottom. It took about 45 minutes to remove the brackets and glue and to fit the new metal brackets. She also fitted a thicker arch wire in the top and ...

Re: Anterior open bite, retreating 20 yrs later, intro and ?
I recommend pushing for the positioner. I did the research on it and believed that having one gave me a better chance at retaining my bite than without it. I'm 7 weeks post removal as of tomorrow and my posterior open bite hasn't returned like last time after only 2 weeks. I believe this is in a lar...

Re: Anyone else regret their ceramics?
Samoorelaw I agree with you. I'm booked in to the orthodontist on Friday to have my top ceramic brackets removed and replaced to the Damon metal the same as I have on the bottom. I wish now that I had had the metal in the first place purely due to the brackets are mush smaller and more comfortable....

Re: Anyone else regret their ceramics?
First round of braces, I had the ceramic brackets and my third round I had the metal. I preferred the metal because 1) they were cheaper, 2) they were smaller and more comfortable, 3) I didn't have to worry about staining on the ligs, which is much more obvious on ceramic brackets, and 4) the metal ...

Re: Standard Hawley vs Wrap Around Hawley
Wow, that is a lot of acrylic. I have at least 8 more weeks of full time wear and then just nights but I'm so paranoid about movement that I may wear them full time for longer.

Re: After 3 months with braces I decided to stop my treatment
I agree that you should post pictures and hold off removing them just yet. My braces changed my shape, too (along with jaw surgery), and I'm told frequently how much better I look post surgery and braces than pre. I'll post my pics to give you an idea: first is before and second is after. My cheeks ...

Re: Standard Hawley vs Wrap Around Hawley
How is your speech with that much of your palette covered by acrylic? I have upper and lower Essix retainers, so my palette isn't too obstructed. The most trouble I've had so far comes with sh- words...and it's not super noticeable unless I'm really tired. I do lisp a bit but mostly with the "...

Re: Braces are off for good this time!
I had my braces removed about 2 months ago. I noticed as soon as the braces were removed my front teeth didn't overlap as far. Not much, just a tiny bit but I've obsessed over my bite so I noticed. But since then, it hasn't changed at all, so I'm very hopeful that I'll be ok. Awesome to hear! Hope ...

Re: Braces are off for good this time!
Having your open bite return within 2 weeks the first time must have been devastating! I'd be on edge too. Maybe the positioner is doing the trick this time! Did you know what caused your bite to relapse last time? Did you have bad tongue posture or breath primarily through the mouth? I did both of...

Re: Braces are off for good this time!
As of tomorrow, it's 4 weeks since my braces have been removed and I've been on edge. The first time the braces were removed in 2014, my open bite returned within 2 weeks, but so far, the bite seems to be holding. Could it be the positioner is working? I don't wear it that often (an hour or so per d...
