In the surgery, are the jaws always wired shut? I thought I read somewhere that they don't do that anymore?

I'm curious as to how long it took you older patients to have any gaps close up--gaps created by extractions early on in your orthodontics. I know that "older" adults have jaws like solid rock, but I have been 18 months waiting for 4mm gap to close. One side is pretty much there, but other...

My situation is/was similar to yours, though maybe not quite as extreme. That said, I did not have treatment until well, well, well, into adulthood. I'm 21 months in braces so far. Teeth lined up very nicely and quite quickly. The big problem has been getting my gaps to close where they did the lowe...
