Permanent upper retainers - flossing & being in the way
I have permanent upper and lower retainers and a removeable upper retainer that I'm wearing 24/7 (just got my braces off). The lower retainer is fine because the gaps are big enough that I can comfortably slide some superfloss through and floss around the gumline. However, the gaps must be small bec...

Re: Bones not growing properly after lower jaw surgery?
I noticed it quite soon after surgery, maybe 3-4 months. I was putting moisturiser on and felt that my jawline had an indent.

Bones not growing properly after lower jaw surgery?
I had lower jaw surgery about 12 months ago and I have a curve in my jawline on one side. My surgeon said something about my bones growing in with a gap, I don't quite remember what he said, but he didn't really explain it or reassure me about it. I cannot find anything online about this happening. ...

Ceramic braces too bulky?
I'm trying to decide whether to get ceramic braces on my 6 top front teeth. Do they feel bulkier in your mouth than the metal ones? I've seen the braces on the models and they are quite obviously bigger than metal brackets. I have an overjet and I already feel like my upper lip sticks out quite a bi...

Re: Lips
I hope mine don't change.
My overjet is going to be correctly partly by pulling back my upper teeth a little (mostly by widening the arch), but I hope that isn't enough to cause a difference.

Re: Do your lips look different when your braces come off?
My concern is that all the stretching from braces, the long time spent cleaning, etc, will thin out my lips. I have a smallish mouth.
Is that realistic or am I worrying about nothing?

Maybe a stupid question, but do braces change your lips and the way they sit?

teeth whitening
I will be getting braces soon, but I also want to get my teeth whitened.
Is that something I should do before the braces go on? If teeth are whitened with braces, does the surface covered by a bracket not change colour?

I'm quite opposed to veneers, but of course it's something you have to decide for yourself.

Re: Problem with not being able to rest my jaw fully?
I don't have TMJ.
Whenever I google splint it comes up with contraptions that are used on a regular basis to treat problems. Can a dentist just put one on for the appointment? Does it work immediately?

Problem with not being able to rest my jaw fully?
My problem is an overjet caused by a lower jaw that is too far back (probably because my upper arch is too narrow for it to have come out any further). The orthodontist told me that everybody should be able to bang their teeth loudly together so they make a clacking sound. I can't do this. I can mak...
