Re: Sorry, Should have said February 2014 surgery buddies
Hi February folks... I had my Lefort 1 on October 1st.... just to add some encouragement, you will be feeling tons better very soon! I also had the crackling in my jaw and it drove me crazy. I was banded shut but even tiny movements would crackle. This went on for weeks. Once I was able to move my j...

Re: Insurance policy: supporting language for surgery covera
I also have BCBS. The procedure I had done was a LeFort 1 also. The insurance originally denied because there was not proof of a functional defect like eating. The Oral Surgeon then did a "Peer to Peer" conversation with the insurance company doctor and it was approved. I believe that the ...

Re: When will the bones be stable enough for braces removal?
I am 3 1/2 months post op and had my appt earlier this week. I joked with my ortho about taking my braces off now and he said he WOULD do it this month but would rather wait until next month (the 4 month mark). I am not going to take any risks by taking them off now and will happily wait until the 4...

Re: October surgery
Hi! Congrats on your surgery.... everything with mine went beautifully! I am very pleased with the results and my ortho is so happy that he said I might even get my braces off earlier than normal.... He may take them off in February. Right before surgery, he said March/April so I am thrilled with Fe...

Re: Open bite panic
Mrs. V.... I just read your message and want to share a little of my story with you. About 3 years ago I had some dental work done on my back molars which lead to about a year and a half of horrible pain and discomfort. After many, many dental visits (and pain, tears and suffering), I ended up seein...

Re: Ear pain/deafness
I had my Lefort 1 on October 1st. About 2 weeks post op, I began experiencing a lot of popping in my left ear... kinda like I was underwater or had fluid in my ear. This was pretty continual for about 2 weeks (all day long). I called my OS office and the PA said it wasn't likely surgery related and ...

Re: How to get the food in
I did not have a splint so I may not have had the same experience as you will have but I found that drinking soups out of a cup worked really well (they had some thin plastic disposable cups that they gave me at the hospital)... but the bands caught any small chunks and would create a blockage so th...

soreness post-op?
I had a lefort 1- 5 weeks ago. My teeth are still banded shut and some of my bottom teeth are sore (mainly one). I am sure it is aggravated by the fact that my teeth are pushed together 23 hours a day (except for eating soft-chew) and I know that ortho will do adjustments. The main tooth that is sor...

Re: Possible cause of anterior open bite?
I'm not sure but your story sounds familiar to mine.... my bite was fine for most of my adult life and then I had some dental work done that caused pain... I started grinding my teeth from the stress and was then given a mouth guard by my dentist. Didn't like my dentist (due to his response to my si...

October surgery
Hello! I am new to these boards. I am 41 years old and scheduled for a Lefort 1 on October 1st. Any other late Sept or early October friends out there? I get my surgical hooks on Tuesday and then have my final appt with my oral surgeon on the 24th. The next couple of months sure will be interesting!
