Re: Does my face look right after surgery?
Well it's been over two years now and I have to say that it was not a successful surgery. I'm going back to my surgeon today to see if he can do the sliding genioplasty on my chin to try and balance my face & possibly allow my lower lip to close up over my teeth so I can actually close my mouth....

Re: Why would upper jaw surgery be needed when dealing with recessed jaws
I had an overbite and endured two surgeries in an attempt to correct it. Each time they moved the upper jaw forward too much and the lower jaw not enough. I really question if these surgeons actually know what they are doing.

Re: 8 months post op thinking revision
Hi Sarah96, I have the exact same problems as you and my surgeon has responded in the exact same way. It's unbelievable. I am 2 years post op and tomorrow I am going to see him AGAIN to see if he can somehow improve things with the genioplasty that he never gave me (even though I asked for it). Your...

Re: Does my face look right after surgery?
Well braces are off and it's now 18 months later and my face still looks WRONG! I also now have speech and eating problems because it's hard to talk and eat properly when your lips have to strain to function. I realize that the surgeon for some reason rotated my jaws in the opposite direction to nor...

Re: Revision Surgery
I suppose the most important question is...can you fix it with minimal invasive surgery?

Re: Revision Surgery
First I went and saw two cosmetic surgeons because my initial issue was with the aesthetic result. They both agreed that my chin was still very recessive and recommended a genioplasty (not a chin implant). One told me that my upper jaw was too far forward (which is where the orthognathic surgeon put...

Revision Surgery
I have had surgery twice so far (upper and lower) for an overbite and I'm still terribly disappointed with the results. It's been over 18 months since the last surgery so it looks like things won't improve. For some reason, the surgeon did not do an impaction (I have a very long face) and now my fac...

Still regretting surgery - 13 months later
I had surgery over a year ago. My procedure was complicated (2 surgeries and 2.5 years of braces). I'd also had similar surgery when I was a child. I am now extremely unhappy with the results. After the first surgery (2 years ago) my upper jaw was widened. They straightened my teeth and I really lov...

Re: Does my face look right after surgery?
Hi Ivonne, Thanks for the good advice. It's true that I have "good" days (when I am more than happy with my face) and I also have "bad" days (when I look in the mirror and feel lousy). I've heard other people express the same experience for a considerable time after surgery. I ha...

Re: Does my face look right after surgery?
Every time I bring it up, he tells me that it will take time and to just wait. Plus he reckons that it will make a difference when the braces come off. I don't really believe this because other patients don't seem to have the same problem. The lip issue could be a problem because not being able to c...

Re: Does my face look right after surgery?
I had similar surgery many years ago for the same problem when I was very young. Unfortunately it relapsed. Then a year before the latest surgery I had to undergo sarpe surgery and have a wisdom tooth removed (which was apparently an extremely difficult procedure) because it was embedded into the lo...

Re: Does my face look right after surgery?
From what I can tell it seems to have been moved downwards making it longer. The surgeon did admit to having had problems lifting my upper jaw up due to too much scar tissue from previous surgeries. He told me that it had been successful despite the issues.

Does my face look right after surgery?
Hi everyone, I had surgery nearly 6 months ago (upper and lower jaws moved forward to correct an overbite). After the swelling had subsided i was a little disappointed at how little my profile had changed. I suppose I expected my lower jaw to have moved forward more. I did not have a genioplasty as ...

Re: My daughter had double jaw surgery and it has all gonewr
I understand how you feel as I had surgery at almost the same time and I have a similar result. My surgeon keeps telling me to wait and see what happens because it can take over 12 months for everything to settle in it's right place but just like your daughter my upper jaw looks way too long and pro...

Re: 12 weeks post-op
Sometimes I'm not quite sure where my natural bite is but generally it's not a problem at this stage. The first month was weird because I often wake up thinking that my mouth was open and would try to close it only to find that it was already shut.
