I would go with braces because I wouldn't have the discipline to wear the trays 24/7. If you get braces, you are pretty much guaranteed to succeed, because whether you like it or not, the braces stay ON 24/7.

Are you talking about Essix retainers? I have always paid $75 everytime I've lost or damaged mine to get a replacement. I only remember one mold ever being taken, right after I got my braces off.

My orthodontist told me when wearing my essix retainer 24/7 that I could only drink water with them on. Take them out when you drink anything else, including non-sugary drinks, and wash your mouth out with warm water before putting them back in during the day when a toothbrush isn't available.

My ortho told me that WaterPix are great for bonded retainers. I bought a WaterPix about a year ago and love it. I know its controversial about whether or not it replaces flossing completely, but it's certainly better than not flossing.

In my experience your speech improves after a while. At least it does for me. After not wearing my retainer for a while, I find that when I put it in I first have to get used to it being in there. Once I get used to it, my speech returns to normal.
