An Old member coming back to say hello!
Wow- I ran across this website in my favorites, and can't believe it has been so long! I had my SARPE last year - Nov 1 2005 to be exact... A date I will never forget. If you look through some of the first pages on this website, then you can see my struggle. I was lucky to get a good orthodontist, w...

Tina, Wow! Sorry about your ordeal! Glad to hear you are well though. I agree with you on the not minding the space thing - I was in so much pain for about 3-4 days post op that I felt the exact same way! I remember telling my mom that same thing! My space showed up immediately - but my front teeth ...

My space was a big one - 7mm. Hopefully someone will let me know how to post pictures, and i will. I did not have braces on because I am going to get Invisalign when I get my expander out. So - I have to just wait out the gap and let it close on its own. But, DM did it without braces and thought it ...

RDA, Dental wax is your new best friend. I use it to cover up my gap, and everyone tells me it makes a huge difference. I just take a stick or half a stick and hold it in my mouth for a couple seconds to warm it up so it gets soft, and then I mash it up and push it into the space. Then I smooth it o...

Hey all! I'm usually pretty technologically savvy - but for the life of me I cannot figure out how you guys got a picture on your posts. I was going to put a before picture on, and then another one at full expansion for everyone to see - but apparently my brain isn't functioning right now because i ...

So you all were right - the turning process has not been bad at all. Today marks the 1/2 way mark for me. I have to make 28 turns, and tonight I will make # 14. I wonder if anyone else tried to use the braces wax to fill in the gap made my the expansion. I started experimenting with it this morning,...

Things are really starting to get better everyday. For a couple days, people would say I looked better, and I didn't see it, but for the last 2 days I have noticed a huge change each morning. I had my post-op check-up today, and the doc said everything looks great. Tomorrow I go to the ortho and sta...

Thanks Katemm... It really does help to know that others have been through the same thing. I can't imagine having other surgeries in the future - this is it for me. I know I need to give it time...at least I keep trying to remind myself of that. Thanks for the advice on talking. It hurts to talk, so...

So yesterday was pretty bad. Day two. Today (day three) was alittle better - I slept more today than ever. Its weird, one side of my face is looks drastically worse than the other. My left side is really swollen, really bruised, and my left eye is black. My right side is only slightly swollen and ha...

Hey everyone! So I am just over 24 hours post op. My face is really swollen and bruised. It was more than I expected, but my mom said it was less than she expected - so I guess it evens out. My jaw hurts alot...in the actual joint...did anyone else feel this way? The joint hurts worse than where the...

katemm - That really stinks - I would be really upset too. My ortho and oral surgeon are also not on the same page about some stuff, and they have worked together on many clients. I want invisalign braces - my ortho said that would be no problem...my oral surgeon thinks its a mistake. He said I will...

SARPE soon....
Hey everyone - I have not posted in a LONG time. Last time I was going back and forth with my insurance to get them to pay for it...to no avail...but I have come up with the funding on my own and the surgery is in one week (Nov 1). I am excited and nervous. Mic - I know what you are talking about ge...

Katemm - thanks for the reply! I think you will be able to turn it. I was able to do it by myself - but that was without surgery so I'm sure it is harder after surgery...I guess I'll find out. But I have faith - you seem determined enough to make it happen - just don't get down if you can't at first...

I tried to use the palatal expander without surgery and it did not end up working for me. We decided to stop because it was about to uproot one of the teeth it was connected to. I am 24-years-old. But that doesn't mean it won't work for you necessarily...I would just advise that you be prepared for ...
