Re: Braces (again) @ 27 - edge to edge bite

Just had my first appointment to pick up my trays! I ended up with quite a few attachments - 18 , including attachments on all of my front upper teeth. I was also instructed to start wearing class III elastics immediately, which was quite a shock - I thought elastics would not start until lat...

Re: Braces (again) @ 27 - edge to edge bite

Well, today was the big day. However the result wasn't quite what I was planning. After mulling things over last weekend I decided to take the risk and go with Invisalign. The thought of having adult braces absolutely terrified me - much more than it rationally should have. I have to interact with n...

Re: Choosing a treatment plan & ortho (invisalign vs. ceramic)

Thanks everyone for your responses. After posting and reading your helpful responses I had decided that the ceramic/metal braces option was the best choice due to less hassle (trays in/out), better likely results, less cost, and kinda aesthetics (Invisalign + attachments on every tooth looks strange...

Re: Braces (again) @ 27 - edge to edge bite

Just returned from my pre-braces cleaning at the dentist and have a few before pics. The dentist strongly agreed with my choice to go ahead with treatment - it was nice to not be scolded for once . I'll upload more pictures after the big day. My feeling have been a bit of a rollercoaster - prou...

Braces (again) @ 27 - edge to edge bite

Hi everyone, I am starting my braces journey on Monday. This site has been incredibly helpful/inspiring as I've considered taking the plunge, and I decided it's worth posting my journey to hopefully inspire other folks considering the same decision. Background: I am a 27 y/o male who works as a mana...

International travel 5 days after bonding?

I am currently scheduled for bonding (yikes!) next Monday - ceramic uppers and metal lowers. Five days later (Saturday) I am scheduled to take off on a 3.5-week trip to Indonesia. The advantages of getting them earlier are a) earlier bonding = more likely I will be done in time for my wedding next y...

Choosing a treatment plan & ortho (invisalign vs. ceramic)

I joined this board a few years ago in anticipation of fixing my bite, however I was not able to go through with treatment at that time. My teeth look fine, however I have a edge-to-edge bite (only my front two teeth touch) that has been seriously damaging my teeth and causing a fair amount of jaw p...

Re: Totally overwhelmed by my braces consult.

Hi there. I saw your other thread but thought I would respond here. I would suggest getting another consultation. I do not have spaces like you do, but I also have an edge-to-edge bite. After four consults, only ONE ortho said I needed surgery. You might be able to find someone who can take care of ...

Re: Edge to Edge Bite - Surgery?

Well, had another consultation today. This ortho said Invisalign is an option :D  ! He is an invisalign preferred provider, so I trust his judgement. Only problem is it is really expensive.

Now decision time!

Anyone wearing a MEAW?

I am currently in the consultation phase, however am leaning towards an ortho who provided both the best price and time (15-18mos). Unfortunately, there is no ceramic option (Damon metal) so I am still debating about that. My main question is about a technique this ortho plans to use. I have a mild ...

Re: Edge to Edge Bite - Surgery?

Well, had my first consultation today. Orthodontist #1 says no surgery (!!!!), no extractions, and 18mos using the Damon system. Unfortunately no clear/ceramic option :(.

Next consultation is Wednesday...will be interested to see what ortho #2 has to say.

Re: Edge to Edge Bite - Surgery?

How many consultations have you had? I don't know much about this because I just started the process. I have an under bite (to me it is a very slight under bite) and the 1st orthodontist that I went to mentioned surgery, but stated that the problem could be fixed my removing two teeth (although the...

Re: Edge to Edge Bite - Surgery?

I guess my main concern is about long term consequences (i.e. loss of feeling in parts of my face, as I've heard happens). In the past I've had some dentists/past ortho say I would need surgery, while others have told me my bite could be easily fixed without. I'll find out soon enough. Darn work get...
