Re: Lips not meeting properly after surgery :(
At around 5 weeks I had the same problem and I was worried that my mouth would naturally hang open permanently. However I believe it was due to residual swelling. At the time I had thought my swelling had mostly resolved, but now at almost 3 months I can definitely see a huge difference in swelling ...

Re: Week 1 post-op & I'm eating mash. Can I do harm?Burning
I was eating mash the second day after double jaw surgery, my surgeon said it was good that I could eat it that early. Like you I couldn't chew, instead I was kind of mushing it against the roof of my mouth with my tongue.

Hi there, congratulations on the weight loss! As for feeling self conscious about having braces as a young adult, I think the majority if not all people feel that way, for different reasons. After a while it doesn't bug you as much and you look forward to the end result

Do you floss? Do your gums bleed when you brush/floss? It could be mild periodontal disease.

Re: Cost of braces in Australia
That's very similar to my case. I had my 4 wisdoms, a baby tooth, and its corresponding canine extracted. I was quoted about 16k for jaw surgery, which I hope will be coming soon fingers crossed. Yes it is so expensive!!! Sometimes I wonder if it is worth it... seeing as it's the cost of a car! But ...

Re: Cost of braces in Australia
I paid just under $6700 for damons with clears on upper 6. All up treatment time will be 24 months.
I'll also be having jaw surgery which will be another 10+k, and I had extractions beforehand which was roughly 3k.

Re: Cleaning with Power Chains
I use the interdental christmas tree looking brushes. If I feel that my teeth aren't clean enough, I'll put some toothpaste on one of those and brush around the brackets and under the powerchains.

Re: Braces with fillings and missing teeth
I don't think it'll be an issue. Sounds like you are in the same boat as I was. I have some fillings (also due to poor oral hygiene as a teenager) and I was missing an adult tooth (it never grew in, and my baby tooth in that spot hadn't fallen out yet). I also have an underbite which will be fixed w...

Re: Extraction gaps not closing
Even when my extraction gaps were tiny, my ortho wasn't satisfied and wouldn't move onto the next phase of treatment until they closed. So I'd say your result isn't the norm? Based on my experience.

Re: Power chain pain, botheration
I've had full upper and full lower power chains for the past few months. It's not so bad, it's usually only painful for the first couple days. I think putting in a new thicker wire is much worse.
Just avoid flossing for the first couple days after getting a new power chain in.

Re: Wisdom teeth removal , anybody?
I had mine taken out at the start of my treatment, before I had my braces put on. But I needed them out due to crowding. I was told that you don't use them to chew, and they're just extra teeth to clean. I had mine taken out under GA in hospital. You can get them taken out under LA in the chair, but...

Re: How to deal with constant pain and soreness?
All NSAIDs can potentially cause hearing loss..... It's not common but if you're worried about it why don't you just use Panadol?

Re: How to deal with constant pain and soreness?
Panadol? Ibuprofen isn't that bad short term.. And the pain doesn't last very long, after a few days you won't notice it as much.

Re: Proxy brush
I am so reliant on proxy brushes. I carry one wherever I go. I use one every night after brushing. I feel like my toothbrush does a good job, but may miss a couple spots. Admittedly in the beginning I was a bit lazy to use them, thinking they're an extra unnecessary step in the process, but now it's...
