Re: Why ceramic on top and metal on bottom?

I was offered all ceramic (extra cost, obviously), but I chose ceramic on top and metal on bottom because my lower teeth are generally less visible and therefore it wasn't worth it to me to spend more money on lower ceramics.

Re: Afraid

I don't want to scare you, but I had my wisdom teeth out about 7 years ago and I'm pretty sure my braces pain has been worse than the wisdom tooth pain. I had all 4 teeth removed at the same time with local anesthetic (awake for the procedure) and they gave me a powerful prescription painkiller to t...

Re: My Braces (20 year old male)

Catwanabee- you must have self ligating ceramics. My orthodontist showed me the difference the other day and he wants to use them on me as well. The self ligating have the metal on them but the regular ceramics don't and use rubber bands to hold them together. :) It depends on which brand of self-l...

Re: Countdown to brace day!

Welcome and congrats on setting a date!

Based on the 15-18 month estimate, sounds like you'll be in Damons or some other self-ligating bracket?

Re: Adjustments for elastics?

Mine were pinching my cheeks and hurting really bad too. I started twisting the elastics one time, making an X then attaching to the hook and that helped tremendously. When I got my class III elastics, the assistant actually put them in that way. I don't twist them and I just assumed they got twist...

Re: Might start treatment and not sure how to tell parents

Hubby is supportive and so is my best friend. The issue at this point is figuring out the money situation. Also, I feel weird telling my parents or family. I think they are the ones I worry most about telling or explaining this too. I almost feel slightly guilty because my parents did pay for brace...

Re: Bite issues with braces

Your resting bite should be comfortable. You shouldn't have to force your jaw forward/back to make your teeth fit together. Unfortunately, almost all of us with braces will experience bite changes on a regular basis until we're finished with treatment, and some of those changes may not feel so great...

Re: Adjustments for elastics?

I've noticed that the brackets the elastics are hooked onto can become more irritating. Are you sure the elastics are what's causing the irritation and not the brackets? Sometimes I think a bracket or hook on one tooth is causing discomfort, but then I'll explore and find it's coming from nowhere ne...

Re: Uneven front teeth

Definitely not. The past 1-2 months is the first time I've been able to even use my front teeth since I was a kid. I'm correcting an open bite. I can see the brackets are on 2 different positions on the teeth. I'm feeling better about it after a few days. Still not thrilled, but there's nothing I c...

Re: Uneven front teeth

Is it possible your teeth look uneven because they wore down unevenly from all the years they spent crooked? They usually reposition brackets based on root position, so your roots may be straightening up even though your teeth look uneven.

Re: Rubber Bands - take off for awhile?

I just got my braces on yesterday and have to wear rubber bands. Question for you...if I were to take my rubber bands off for a day of meetings would I loose a lot of time? I don't feel comfortable wearing them at this executive meeting I am attending. Your thoughts? Do any of you take them out now...

Re: Dude Braces @ 25 --- MapleLeafMan888 My Story

Thanks! Well last night these suckers kept me up most of the night even after 1000mg of ibuprofen. This morning is no better either. Back on the liquid and soft food diet for a bit I guess. Yup, I am happy things are moving again- I can see a noticable difference this morning in the arch alignment....

Re: Dude Braces @ 25 --- MapleLeafMan888 My Story

I had my 3rd adjustment today and wow I started to feel the pain like right away!. Guess this makes up for 5 weeks with the braces virtually doing nothing. I got 0.016x.025 rectangular on top and 0.014x0.025 rectangular on the bottom. The assistant removed my molar build ups from lower 6s and place...
