Sirwired explained it well. If you have self-ligating brackets (the ones that don't use ligatures to hold the wires in place), your adjustments will usually be around 8 weeks apart. They may not have to move the bracket, but they can give you molar buildups or bite blocks to keep them from hitting. Both of you should really call your orthos and get this taken care of.

What configuration do they have you wearing? I have rabbit elastics, which are the same diameter as quail, but almost twice the strength. It was awkward at first, but now I'm able to get them in without trouble. It might just take some time for you to get used to putting them in.

There's no doubt you feel pressure. I would describe it as a feeling of tightness (and then the pain...), but it's not necessarily pressure/tightness in the sense that it's pushing everything inwards.
