Re: Eating in braces....
Best advice I got from an adult brace wearer right befor eI got mine, "Chew through the pain." I'm self conscious when I eat sandwiches and such in public too, but even when my teeth are sore I try to eat "normal" foods and get through the pain. It does get easier!

Re: Ladies: Do you wear lipstick?
I've never been a big lipstick fan, but now with braces I avoid it all together. Not because I'm afraid of showcases my mouth, but because it just seems to get everywhere. I prefer chapstick and lip gloss. I find that my lips get really dry now so the chapstick is my #1.

Re: When you smile, do you show your upper and/ or lower tee
Currently, just my top teeth show. I have some overjet and narrow palate issues, so it will be interesting to see if I show both sets when I'm finished with my treatment plan.

Re: Frequency of dental cleanings?
I schedule a full exam/cleanings every 6 months, with a cleaning inbetween for a total of 4 cleaning and 2 exams. I'm lucky to have a great plan through work that allows for this and it's definitely helped. I'm a coffee/wine drinker so I find it really helps control the staining on my teeth.

Re: What was the last straw for you?
I've never been happy with my teeth/smile, but I had learned to get over it for the most part when I entered my early/mid 20's. I had an ortho assessment done when I was 21 and was told I'd need 4 teeth pulled and just generally didn't like the Dr's attitude. I abandoned all interest in braces and c...

Re: Running out of food choices
Scrambled eggs are my fave on adjustment days. I made a lot of stews or bean/chickpea dishes, or steamed veggies once things are a bit less tender. Salmon has also been super easy to eat!

Re: Waterpik yes or no?
I bought the cordless one so I could take it with me when I'm not at home. I use it before I brush to get all the crud out of the way first. I still use regular floss a couple times a week, but I use the waterpik twice a day or more depending on what I eat. Since I had and expander and now a palate ...
