Re: April/May 2014 surgical buddies..
Hi Leebie - you look great! Sorry to hear about your fracture problem though; hope you can get that sorted. My jaw positions are a lot better than before though my midlines are still way off; just have to accept that I'm meant to be off-centre! I was on liquid diet for first seven weeks, then moved ...

Re: April/May 2014 surgical buddies..
Phew, my surgeon couldn't see what the orthos were fussing about regarding the plate, so no extra surgery as yet. He also doesn't want to disturb things while they're still healing. Basically it's wait and see if I get any more infections in the same place. If I do, the plate may need to come out bu...

Re: April/May 2014 surgical buddies..
Oh my God, I'm so sorry to hear about your infection. Things must be very uncomfortable/painful for you right now. *hugs* Well, it's about 11pm here. So I'm going to have one last mini meal before going to bed. Then I'm up at 5am. Eeeeeppp!!! Bizarrely/thankfully has made no difference, apart from ...

Re: April/May 2014 surgical buddies..
Reached the six week post-op mark today: Good News - No bands! Or at least no bands for four weeks - then they'll see if my bite has drifted or not and whether Ineed bands back on again or not. Can't open wide enough for soft food yet but at least I've got more chance of increasing my jaw opening no...

Great! Suddenly becomes very real when you've got a date to work towards, and not long now too! What surgery have you/they decided on? I know there was a change of plan.Leebie3 wrote:30th May!!!

Re: Post op: how long 'til mouth open wide enough for soft f
Thanks for your reply - it gives me an idea of timescales. Now that I've got more energy than I had the first two weeks, I just want everything to go back to normal or at least 'new normal', as quickly as possible. Totally unrealistic I know but my patience has worn quite thin!

Post op: how long 'til mouth open wide enough for soft food?
Advice sought from those who have been there and done that! It's been four weeks since I had surgery on both jaws; I've been tightly banded shut since then. A week ago my orthodontist gave me the green light to remove the bands at meal times only so I could move onto soft food. The only problem bein...

Re: April/May 2014 surgical buddies..
Bl@@dy sticking out metalwork! Hope you get it sorted quickly DisneyNerd. At the end of my regular appointments, my orthodontist always asked if there were any bits sticking out, sharp points etc, and of course I never could feel anything then, I always discovered them later on when I got home! The ...

Re: April/May 2014 surgical buddies..
My orthodontist put the surgical hooks in my braces today. I'm doing all right so far, my bottom lip just feels very sore. She did give me wax, though, but I'd rather do without it. So trying to cope with all the discomfort.
I always think it's better to just wo...

Re: April/May 2014 surgical buddies..
Thanks Leebie3 and DisneyNerd - I am starting to get some sleep in which helps so much. I've never felt so unwell before - I don't normally 'do' ill - so this is really frustrating
. I need to be more patient! Only 30 days of banding to go...not that I'm counting or anything..!

Re: April/May 2014 surgical buddies..
Apologies for the following ramble, but yet again I can't sleep! Had my surgery done on Tuesday 15th, surgeon said went easier than expected but it took about 6 and a half hours. Stayed in hospital recovery room overnight. Next day was taken to ward and was meant to have been banded up, but was very...

Splints
I'm having double jaw surgery on Tuesday, and following lots of problems with taking molds/impressions, I went in a couple of days ago to check that the wafers and splints fitted okay. The top jaw splint seemed to fit okay but the ortho couldn't get the lower splint to fit. He kept shaving bits of t...
