Bands on then off, then on, then off
Getting a bit frustrated with this midline correction. I had some progress a couple of months ago, which felt promising, but my canines are clashing on the right side, and my teeth still only touch in 3 or 4 places. Ugh! I wear my rubber bands religiously when I'm told to, but my ortho keeps changin...

Re: How long after surgery did braces come off?
I'm coming up on 11 months post op and I'm still in braces. I'm expecting to be in them for another 6 months, but I think I'm an unusual case.

Re: Double Jaw Surgery -- Numbness Question
Zeroing in on 11 months and I do still have numb areas of my face. I'm mostly used to them, though it is annoying when I can't feel food hanging out there. I'm not giving up. I've heard stories of it taking years, so there's hope in the nerves returning!

Re: Dramatic nose change after surgery?
For anyone who's curious for an update: I did wind up undergoing rhinoplasty. It turns out the aesthetic problems I was struggling with were the mark of damaged internal structures. My septum got completely twisted during upper jaw surgery and and as a result part of my cartilage collapsed. I'm a we...

Re: Does my chin appear to be weak?
It's stronger than mine is now, and I've had jaw surgery.
I think it looks just fine, it's definitely in the normal range.

Re: Dramatic nose change after surgery?
Thanks, I've actually come across that article before and I've been following a few of the suggestions to help things along. I have been drinking a homemade tea of turmeric, ginger and black pepper since May, and I've been using a face massaging brush twice a day for even longer than that. I drink a...

Re: Question about getting second molars braced...
I have a bracket on my second molar on the top right side, and I'll soon be getting one on my bottom left. From what I understand this allows your arch to widen (for me just on the sides where the extra brackets are) and in my case will help resolve some crowding I have in the back of my mouth. My f...

Re: Midline Timeline
I've been wearing them for the last 4 months, but they haven't budged. My ortho says there's some crowding with the molars on my left side that is keeping my teeth from shifting, so at the end of this month I have to go get a bracket added to my very last molar on the left side. I wish we could have...

Re: Nose shape after Upper Jaw surgery
katsface, when did you start to feel like you had returned to your original nose? Did that start recently (a year and a half post op) or a while ago?

Re: Dramatic nose change after surgery?
Unfortunately no, he was afraid to pull in the nostrils the full width we'd originally discussed and instead brought it in only 2mm--which as I understand it really isn't visible to the human eye as far as reducing nose width goes. He spoke with some colleagues and determined the muscles around the ...

Re: MINIMAL MOVEMENT! WILL I LOOK ANY DIFFERENT???
They didn't during the surgery because they said my alar base hadn't changed. Then when my nose was still considerably wider at 7 months they did it as a separate procedure, but in the end couldn't return my nose to its pre surgery width. After speaking with some colleagues he told me this was likel...

Re: Dramatic nose change after surgery?
Thanks, this is helpful. Really crossing my fingers for a natural resolution, and hopefully soon! I feel like I've been waiting to see my own face for so long, it can get hard to hold onto that hope but I'm trying. Really don't want to have to see a plastic surgeon.

Re: MINIMAL MOVEMENT! WILL I LOOK ANY DIFFERENT???
Ask for a computer rendering. I didn't and regretted it. I had 4mm taken from my maxilla and (crossing fingers this will eventually right itself) at almost 9 months my face has changed quite a bit, and not for the better. Make sure you are comfortable with the risk of your nose widening or changing ...

Re: Dramatic nose change after surgery?
Did the nostrils eventually regain their regular shape? Mine are so flared out and that seems to be a major contributor to my current state of not quite looking like myself. My surgeon (same one who did the jaw surgery) performed the secondary procedure a little over 7 months after my jaw surgery. W...
