Re: Anyone have to have a TP Arch?!
Yep, I've got a double one actually. Two wires run between two sets of my top molars and the bands on the teeth are soldered together. For the first 2 days I really thought that my tongue would be shredded. Not going to lie, it was one of the most painful parts for me. But a few more days of frequen...

Re: Transpalatal arch - treatment or medieval torture device
I did a lot of fruit smoothies at first. After a month or so I figured out how to strategically position some food right under the buildups where I could use them as my only chewing surface since my molars didn't touch anymore. And I had some tall buildups. I ate very slowly, but I could at least ea...

Re: Bummed about back brackets
I got them on day 1. Brackets on bottom molars, bands on top. Although I got all the discomfort upfront, at least my mouth has gotten used to it quickly. Honestly, sometimes I don't floss the back. I just blast it with the Waterpik. Probably not ideal, but no complaints yet from the ortho. There's o...

Transpalatal arch - treatment or medieval torture device?
Both? :) Ugh, this thing is horrible. I have what is effectively 2 TPAs with the bands bonded together. Teeth 2+15 and 3+14 each have a wire running from the band straight up my palate and over to the other side. I learned to deal with the buildups on my premolars by eating soft food that I could sm...

$2000 here as well. And it sounds like I should be thrilled with that.

Re: How much did you guys pay for your braces?
About $7200 all-in, not including extraction cost. That was probably another $2000 (4 impacted wisdom teeth and 3 others).

Re: Hi everybody!
Thanks! One question I had. My ortho said that they put o-rings on my brackets even though they were self-ligating to try and put more pressure to a thin wire, but that eventually they wouldn't need to do that. Does that make sense? Part of the reason I went for self-ligating is to minimize the stai...

Hi everybody!
