Re: How do you manage keeping your teeth clean when out?
At the office, I keep a sandwich bag with supplies and a fold-up cup. I fill my cup at the coffee area sink, then in the restroom lay a clean paper towel on the counter to set my bag and cup on. While driving or shopping, I swish my drink to try to get some of the chunks out of the brackets. I keep ...

Re: Your favorite toothbrush for "early" braces?
I like the smaller heads for the SonicCare the first few days after an adjustment, careful to avoid bonking teeth with the hard plastic. Then back to regular toothbrush.

Re: can you brush your teeth too much?
My dentist recently wrote "The Art of War on Dental Health," which provides clear explanations of why and how with regard to flossing and brushing. Although she doesn't go into the variations associated with orthodontic braces, it's useful information all the same. It's on Amazon.

Re: Braces at 63
My mouth felt much better after cleaning; maybe yours will feel the same. I wonder if some of the adhesive had leaked around to the back of the teeth. Agree that soft food does not always equal healthy food We used to eat a lot of steamed veggies, now they are cooked until soft.

Re: Taking a LOT of ibuprofen - will it impact my treatment?
I'm a newbie, had one adjustment so far. At initial wiring and the adjustment, about 5-7 days alternating ibuprofen with acetaminophen. Taking the one at 12 & 6 and the other at 3 & 9, always with a glass of water, so taking something every 3 hours. 1000 mg acet. and 600 mg ibu. per dose.

Sweet tarts. MMM. Although I didn't chew them and the roof of my mouth was sore the next couple of days.

Re: Nickel
My skin reacts to nickel a little and pierced earrings will cause my ears to become raw and ooze in 1-3 days, having to re-enter the healing process. While a watch on the arm or jeans buttons will cause itching, the earrings cause open sores. I'm not sure taping a wire to your arm would accurately i...

Well, I was going to upload some pictures but haven't yet received the magic green name. Other than a piece of stuck floss, and missing crunchy food, all seems to be well.

Re: New, anything to watch out for?
Thanks so much, everyone! My dentist, who is highly educated and female (not many of those in this rural area and she is independent thinker enough for me ha ha), referred me to a couple of orthodontists she thought would do well for adult orthodontics and be a good fit for what I'm after. I really ...

Stainless steel braces, age 53
Hi all, my teeth were braced Sep 18, 2014 with stainless steel. I don't know the brand name; they look like the "Empower" brackets on the American Orthodontics web site. http://www.americanortho.com/empower.html Nifty blue molar pads really impede food chewing. Not a bad thing if it means ...

I like to read your progress; it's inspiring. My teeth were braced 2 weeks ago (age 53) and I'm still too chicken and sore to actually bite into food, LOL.
