Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Are you guys still checking this thread? I'm back because...dun dun dun...I'm back in braces. I've known this was a possibility for a few years but was hoping to avoid it. I don't know how much of my bite problems are relapse versus the tumor pushing things out of whack, but my bite had gotten prett...

Re: SARPE under general or local anaesthetic?
I've never heard of SARPE being performed under local anesthesia. Mine was under general, but I didn't stay overnight at the hospital.

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Sorry to hear you need another surgery, Nozzel! Recovering from SARPE wasn’t nearly as bad as double jaw surgery, but I was on soft food for awhile. The other thing that sucks is going in public with a big gap between your front teeth, but it’s short-lived, at least. Looks like I haven’t updated th...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Just got back from the orthodontist consultation and it's exactly what I assumed. Walked out with a surgical consultation. Sigh. She showed me on my pano x-ray how my left condyle is completely misshapen and worn away. This is what I assumed. I knew from my TMJ work that the left side was bone-on-bo...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Hey guys! My appointment with an orthodontist is next week. I've become a ball of nerves, hence my posting a nothingburger post. Until the other day, I'd avoided reading about jaw surgery relapse. Now that I've done some reading, it seems pretty obvious to me that I have condylar resorption. It's th...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Still here, still rocking the bite splint. I started the weaning process by wearing them every other night aaaaaaand it didn't go well. I woke up the first splintless night in pain, and then some of my symptoms came back during the course of the month. So now I'm supposed to wear it permanently at n...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Good to hear from you, Jaime! I’m glad that the splints have helped with the pain and you’re getting some relief. When you say there’s a huge difference in your teeth since you got your braces off and your lower jaw is now slanted, do you mean the gap in your bite got bigger? The one dentist said t...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Hey guys, I'm back. I've been wearing my bite splints since August or September last year. They have definitely helped because I rarely have jaw pain anymore. My dentist is pretty pleased with it but treatment isn't over yet. Because I'm doing well, my appointments are a couple months apart. I go ba...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
That’s great news! I hope the splints work! What’s the outlook on the splint therapy? Do you mean long term? I’m not sure, but he did say 90% of his patients are eventually weaned off the splints. He said the other 10% are the ones who never wore the splints properly in the first place or are parti...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Thanks for remembering my appointment was today! I just got home. My joints are in worse shape than I thought, but the treatment sounds pretty reasonable. It was kind of funny because the doctor came in and started doing some different assessments. It was all very sedate until he did a test that vib...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Jaime hope they sort things out for you. And the TMJ issues get fixed. Snap I understand about the nasal congestion. I guess we’re getting the band back together. Had an appt with my max/fac surgeon. And an ENT. SARPE is on the table as well as an ENT fixing my deviated septum(again) and reducing t...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
That’s a great idea getting the opinion of the TMJ doc. A fresh pair of eyes is good especially if you’re considering taking the plunge again :? I thought you were 100% in the US now except for your appointments? If you’re still working in Canada you can’t get free national orthodontics or somethin...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
The dentist thinks my jaw is shifting back to where it was before the surgery and that the symptoms I have are caused by the fact only a few of my teeth touch now. That's basically what I figured, since my chin is off-centre now, where it was post-surgery/pre-elastics. I had complained to my ortho a...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
I’m back. :-+ For starters, how are things with you both? Do you still have braces, Nozzel? And how’s your congestion, snap? I hope you’re both well. I finally saw my dentist today for a LONG overdue cleaning (it had been longer than I remembered, eep) and to talk about my TMJ issues which surprise ...
