Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

My dentist's wife had double jaw surgery and he said that for 6 months she thought about her surgery and what was and wasn't possible......then it seemed one day she just forgot it'd happened and was able to eat everything without issue! ALSO I tend to do stupid things that make me think about the s...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Wow ... I missed a lot these last few days! Congrats, Kayla on getting your wires cut! BRING ON THE SOFT CHEW DIET! :D Snap - I'm officially 4 months post op! And yeah I still think about surgery. My right side is still a tad reluctant to open as wide as my left, but I think I'm back to opening as f...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Jaime I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother! Snap you look great! I wouldn't have guessed you had any residual swelling at this point :) For my infection, I had no pain but was feeling "weird" for a day and a half. Nothing specific to pinpoint, just off. My right side had more swelli...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

It seemed that a night of gung ho chewing always made my jaw super tight the next morning. And since I had that infection on my right side, that's the side that's a bit tighter feeling. I've recently developed a slight pain in the right side of my jaw by the joint, but I think it's more from clenchi...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Man I so do NOT want that oiliness to come back...! I was sooooo super oily and was so afraid to scrub my face hard hahaha! I finally scrubbed and exfoliated around 1.5 weeks because I just couldn't take it anymore... I was gentle on my jawline and chin, but I scrubbed like a madwoman all over the r...

Re: Power chains, oh my!

I wasn't extra careful with my powerchains - I just kept on with life as normal. Except my teeth hurt. For like, a week straight. And I couldn't bite into anything for like 2 weeks. But other than that, no special treatment for the powerchains. I did manage to break a powerchain square (...thingie?)...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

So it is a hand pie! I had assumed a meat filled (mince?) pie eaten while hand held. Otherwise, wouldn't it just be a mince pie...? Not sure why sticky nipple covers are called pasties, though...Snap you took me back to when "pasty" was a common word after that whole Janet Jackson Superbow...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

My BSSO was also only 1.5 hours and I was out of elastics (except when sleeping) and eating whatever I wanted at 4 weeks also. I think what takes longer is getting to the bone in the maxilla. It's gotta be harder to see what you're doing up there too, right? And harder to reach... So far my bill out...

Re: Part of Powerchain broken, advise please.

I had the same issue happen to me - only the top of the powerchain O broke, but when I called it in I was advised to come in ASAP to fix it, as any break in the chain rendered it less effective. Also, I keep having powerchains fitted on both upper and lower teeth if only because my teeth like to shi...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

I took a full 4 weeks off work - I also work in retail, but I work in pharmacy so not as much heavy lifting, etc, but I feel like there's a lot more running around and talking to people on the phone. At 2 weeks I was taking care of an infection, so I wasn't exactly ready to go back to work. By the e...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

I looked pretty normal around the 3 week mark, so outwardly unpuffy cheeks aren't so far away for you! :) I was given the ok to eat whatever I wanted (or whatever I could fit into my mouth) around the 6 week mark. Did I really wait that long? No. I was chewing at week 4 (really really carefully, and...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

I'm in Seattle, WA :) I saw Dr Feldman up here for my BSSO, but I didn't have a genio. I had absolutely no numbness coming out of surgery, though I did have a spot of altered sensation on the left side of my chin (about the size of a quarter). That went away around 6 weeks and I now have complete se...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

I'm pretty sure that around the end of week 3 I was pretty normal looking. I was normal looking around the beginning of week 3 if you just didn't know what I looked like normally, then by the end of week 4 I was normal normal looking, and the swelling in my cheeks has continued to go down so now I'v...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Gruntled, I don't think I started using my regular toothbrush until well after the 1 month mark. I waited until my stitches for my bottom lip fully reabsorbed, and THEN I switched back to the full size. I tried it earlier than that and somehow managed to stab myself with said toothbrush right in a s...
