Re: New here, considering braces at 32 yrs old

I hope you decide to get braces, too. 32 is a great age for braces. I got mine on at 32, had them a little over a year, and have been wearing my retainers the past few months. I hardly remember what it was like having braces and I just got them off in November. Seriously. It consumes your life for a...

Re: Having second thoughts about my lower incisor extraction

I don't think you'll find an ortho who will put your teeth out of alignment to make room. At least, I hope you don't! Straightening and properly aligning all teeth is important, especially the bottom front, because teeth naturally drift forward with age so if you have crooked teeth now it will likel...

Re: Another stupid newbie question.

It's possible, you could call them to find out. Did he tell you what your treatment plan is? If not, I would make sure they go over that with you BEFORE getting the braces on. Preferably not at the same appointment in case there's some aspect of it you need to consider before committing. Transparenc...

Re: Underbite & crossbite correct w/Damon, IPR, Acceledent etc

Root canal success! (Fingers crossed). I took halcion again (2) but I was much more freaked out so even with nitrous I was entirely too aware. However, once he gave me the novicaine I felt much better because he was amazing. He did this thing where he somehow massaged my jaw muscle as he was injecti...

Re: Benefits of gum recession

What kind of gum graft did you have? If it was connective tissue I wouldn't be surprised it didn't work out, since they have to make a pocket, and if you don't have a lot of gum tissue to begin with then there's nothing to really make a pocket with. I had a free gingival graft and it worked great. I...

Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

I'm sorry to hear you're going over the time you wanted but it sounds like the right choice. It's only a few more months! And I agree about the cleaning. You should absolutely keep your appt. your teeth will look better when your braces come off if you get a cleaning now. I had a cleaning in Septemb...

Re: Help to identify the name of the ties by the photo

I agree with sirwired. You need to have them installed at an ortho office. I had these bumpers at the beginning of my treatment and they had no problem staying on because the tech installed them behind my wire. I assume you're just slipping them over on the outside? I had one set on for the full tim...

Re: How different is life with a straight, white smile?

My teeth aren't perfect post-braces, and I know many people would say the same. Be careful seeking perfection! Anyway, I have to wear my retainers a lot for this year post-braces, so that's kind of a downer when interacting with people (people look at them more than they did the braces--plastic!) an...

Re: Underbite & crossbite correct w/Damon, IPR, Acceledent etc

Thanks Metallika! :) I haven't had a cleaning yet, I have it scheduled for early February which turns out to be good timing since it will be a few weeks after my root canal. I really need it, I have my usual build up behind my bottom front teeth and there's some cement still on some of my lower mola...

Re: Benefits of gum recession

Hah my dentist would laugh and look at me funny. My periodontist would probably ignore me (he's down to business like that). I thought of this when flossing my teeth one day with my new permanent retainers. It was SO easy! I couldn't understand why other people have such a hard time, then I realized...

Re: Zap type pains

Hello thanks for getting back to me and being so informative. The pains come in one specific area, lower left two molars, the pain tends to hop and jump between the teeth and I can't always recreate the pain, this is especially true for sweet things. If I were to swish a very cold glass of water, c...

Benefits of gum recession

Yes this is a little tongue in cheek 8) but actually true. Hey, we all have to appreciate what we have, right? Benefits of gum recession: 1. You will never need cosmetic gum removal surgery. 2. You will never have to worry about your teeth looking too small. 3. My favorite--- your spacious black tri...

Re: Zap type pains

It's extremely unlikely that the nerves are dying in multiple teeth (which is the worst case scenario you're afraid of, right?). I had the same zappy pains at times after severe adjustments. They were just normal responses. It was scary sometimes, the ferocity of the pain (like when my front teeth w...

Re: Underbite & crossbite correct w/Damon, IPR, Acceledent etc

Here are my pictures! I'm doing this from my phone so I can't do a before and after but will at some point. The bonding on my front teeth isn't perfect but it's because one of my lateral incisors is lower than the other so he tried to camouflage it. He ended up making one tooth round on the bottom a...
