Re: Nosebleeds - how long did they last for you?

Also, since you're two weeks out your energy should be returning fairly rapidly. A technique I found to reduce the nosebleeds due to the leaning forward or sitting up was just to, quite literally, maintain perfect straight posture whenever I was sitting (i.e. straight up, hinged at the pelvis with n...

Re: Nosebleeds - how long did they last for you?

Hi Claire, Congratulations on being two weeks out! I had double jaw surgery (no genioplasty) in August and the nosebleeds were by far the most irritating thing ever. Mine lasted about 13 days. I saw a steady decrease in the amount of blood through those thirteen days, and then they just stopped. One...

Re: Overjet After Mandibular Setback

Definitely give it more time! 9 days is WAY too early to tell anything, and I know you're probably freaking out (I know I was). As others have said, a slight overjet is fine. Trust your surgeon and orthodontist in the meantime. If they are smiling and saying everything looks good, it's because it do...

Re: Don't want to do surgery...will braces suffice?

As others have said, it depends on your personal feelings. From what I've gathered, you've gone quite a while with your bite now. You mentioned you are afraid of not liking the resulting aesthetic changes surgery might bring (which I assume means you're at least content with how you look now), and y...

Re: How much weight lost??

Lost 25 lbs in 5 weeks fully wired shut for 4/tight elastics for 1. From 175 12% bf to 150 8% bf. I'm 5'11". Needless to say, my abs are showing, but so are my ribs ha. This is even with ~3000+ calories a day starting at week 2 (mostly from milk and protein shakes). I'm a hard gainer though, an...

Re: 4 weeks post-op: Bite splint removal, teeth question?

Ah yeah, about the wiring: My surgeon had said the reason he wired the jaw shut was due to the incision site for the mandibular setback (he cut farther up, behind the nerve). For proper healing he said complete immobility was best. Even though it was a complete pain, I never lost any feeling in my c...

Re: 4 weeks post-op: Bite splint removal, teeth question?

Thanks Bood. Really helps to have an experienced person tell me everything's alright! I just got out of my post-op this week and the surgeon finally gave permission to start jaw exercises. I'm about a finger and a half wide now and plan to hit the PT hard in the 3 1-hr sessions I have to w/o elastic...

Re: Surgery Dream Wish List

A personal maid.

Why? Here's my girlfriend on day 3, when my head was the size of a bowling ball:

"Go get your damn self some ice and syringe your own meds, you lazy bum."

Ah, true love.

Re: Sorry, Should have said February 2014 surgery buddies

Hey there! Didn't bother reading all of the posts by others, but a few things I found I made my existence much easier post-op were: a v-type cushion (for sleeping upright), a cooler (to keep ice by you), breathe right nasal strips (if you're getting upper jaw done, your sinuses will be hellacious fo...

Re: Insurance Concerns

Had similar numbers to you (for underbite and crossbite) -- bimax surgery, sagittal split-- all covered under BCBS. This was pre-approved before surgery, so I knew going in I wouldn't be slammed with the bill.

Re: Tooth Ache After Double Jaw Surgery

Hi Christiangirl, I had surgery 4 weeks ago and just recently I began experiencing a "tooth-achey" feeling in my upper jaw. My surgeon said this feeling is due to the nerves coming back in the gums. I had him check the gums as well to make sure no decay or signs of gingivitis/periodontal d...

Re: Negative comment about my results :(

I saw your pictures and you definitely came out of the surgery with a marked improvement both in profile and head shot! Speaking as a 4-week post-op guy who had/has been coping with the aesthetic melodrama that is jaw surgery recovery, I can feel your pain. My sisters called me "monkey face&quo...

Re: How Long Off Work?

Just had Bimax four weeks ago -- I went to work my summer internship (basically installing electrical cabling, handling wires, mounting equipment, ladder-based work, etc.) exactly two weeks after surgery. I needed to get out of the house and frankly felt like craziness had begun to kick in--call it ...

Excuse my mistake: Didn't mean to say week 8 for jaw stretching exercises, but rather week 5. I begin stretching exercises next week.

4 weeks post-op: Bite splint removal, teeth question?

Hey all, So I'm 4 weeks post-op double jaw surgery for underbite/crossbite (so maxillary advancement with saggital split combined with mandibular setback). I'm not sure on my exact numbers, but I know they weren't too much. Anyway, they wired my jaw shut for a total of 29 days post-op (a nuisance, i...
