Re: can i ask to reduce my overall treatment time?

I agree that "it takes how long it takes." Everybody's situation is different. My ortho initially told me 18 to possibly 24 months. My teeth were crooked and my bite was terrible to the point of causing uneven wear and a few chipped teeth over the years. Once the braces were on, my teeth s...

Re: Favourite toothbrush for braces

Sonicare here too. Does a great job around the brackets and wire. Have had the braces for just over a year and use the Sonicare 2-3 times a day. Just had a cleaning at my dentist yesterday and they complimented me on my teeth and gums. That never happened before the Sonicare and the braces. :D

Re: Estimated time for braces

Initially I was told around 18 months; however, my teeth have straightened up fairly quick. In fact, they looked pretty good about 6 months in. I am almost at 1 year and have had my final wires in for the last couple of months. Just making small adjustments last few visits. Looks like I may be done ...

Re: Bite Block

I had them for the first 4 months. I was really happy when they were removed. It was terrible for the first month or so. I couldn't chew anything solid and lived on soup and yogurt! Of course it gradually improved. They are a necessary evil.

Re: Your favorite toothbrush for "early" braces?

Even brushing 3 or more times a day, I just can't keep my teeth as clean as they should be with a manual toothbrush. I use my Sonicare even following an adjustment when my teeth are sensitive.

Yep, no big deal. I swallowed a bracket a few weeks ago. Orhto said it was common.

Re: Will I ever get used to this?

Give it a couple of weeks and you will get used to them. Trying to eat anything other than soup was impossible for me until after the first week. Also, my mouth was very dry at night and my lips were constantly chapped. Now things have settled down and I'm more comfortable with the braces, even had ...

I was lisping a bit too. I found I had to speak a little slower at first, until I got accustomed to all the new hardware in my mouth.

Re: 12 days in. . .

At first it was my lower front teeth that felt very loose, then it was my top front teeth. I talked to my doc at the last adjustment and he assured me that it's normal throughout the treatment.

Re: The beginning is near...

Congrats and welcome to the club! I've had mine for just 7 weeks now. The pain and irritation was not nearly as bad as I anticipated. More of an annoyance. However, the day after my first adjustment I was quite sore.

Re: confused regarding braces

I would be weary of the second consult and would talk to another orthodontist for a third opinion. I was almost fast-talked into invisalign by a dentist, until I did lots of research and talked to a couple of orthodontists. The dentist barely even examined me! He did, however, have his staff thoroug...

Re: How long did you have your build ups or bite turbos?

My ortho said I would need the turbos for 3-4 months. I hated them for the first few weeks and wanted them off as soon as possible. However, now I'm so used to them that I won't really mind if I have to keep them on longer.

To try and stop looking for changes so often!
To become less self conscious about smiling with them.
