At 5 weeks post-surgery, you'll still have some degree of swelling. It varies person to person, but it's possible residual swelling is subtly affecting the way your lips meet. Have you thought about asking your surgeon or ortho?

I had a BSSO surgery two weeks ago, and I slept on my back for the first 3 or 4 days, but inevitably woke up and I was on my side. I now basically sleep on my side each night, although I have it so my head is on the pillow but my jaw is slightly elevated (the pillows are at an angle against a wall)....
