To be honest with you, after 5 weeks post-op, I am still unsure of my new appearance, whether I like it or not. I tell myself that it should be for the better, but right now, I haven't seen the light. Maybe it just takes time to get used to it. The swelling of some parts of my face hasn't improved s...

I got unwired yesterday! Mann, what a weird feeling!! I was wired for 3 weeks, supposedly longer than most people. So it's a change! I had a 9mm lower overbite and was never been able to have my front teeth touch each other. So,it was really odd to have them touched for the first time on their own! ...

Most orthos nowadays give you option of an installment plan because it is a lot of money to pay up front. My ortho gave me a 5% discount if I paid everything in full. So I charged everything onto my credit card (since I get rewards). I ultimately paid the entire amount in full.

Unwired - what to look out for?

I have been wired shut for 2 weeks now, and have 1 more week to go! On Dec 22, I will get my wired cut!! 3 days before Christmas... I am so excited. Although I am super anxious to get these wires out, I am worried how my jaw would "react" without the wires' reinforcement... Can someone tel...

My OS said the procedure will require sedation, but can be done in the office, and is quick and simple. He didn't mention anything about being in the hospital, etc. I really hope I don't need to take it out. If it doesn't bother me, I'd rather not. But I guess I will have to wait until all the swell...

I have always been proned to feeling nausea before (even the slightest unpleasant odor will make me feel nausea and vomit). So I was prepared. But I didn't vomit at all post-surgery! I'm not sure if they gave me anti-vomitting medication, but I didn't feel nausea at all. So, I think you'll be OK.

Has anyone has their metal plates removed?

Just came back from my 1st post-op appointment with my oral surgeon today. I am still swollen around my cheek and upper lip area. Today I noticed a bump on the left side of my face (sinus area). The lump feels solid, as compared to other parts of my face that are soft. My surgeon confirmed that it i...

My OS never told me about the mouth washes or that the stitches will come out either. I was told that the stitches inside my mouth will dissolve automatically.

Ducky, Sorry to hear that you're in pain. I'm 9 days post-op and for the first 9 days, I had very little pain. Discomfort, but not pain. In my pre-surgery class, the nurse recommended the following 4 steps to help with the swelling and recovery, which I found very helpful: 1. Get ahead of the Pain (...

One minor thing that I found helpful -- on your day of your surgery, wear a shirt that doesn't require you to pull over your head. Don't forget that you will be wearing the same article of clothing the next day after surgery so make sure it's easy to put on! Good luck and best wishes on a speedy rec...

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I'm happy to see the improvements day by day. Slow, but at least there IS improvement! I've now progressed to taking Tylenol at night only but I still need to use the medicated nasal sprays. One thing I found out -- there is a saline nasal spray out there cal...

My surgery was on Friday, and I was released from the hospital the next day, Saturday. So they do release patients during the weekends. The main thing they want to make sure is that you can maintain hydration on your own and the major bleeding is gone (esp. if you are doing upper jaw surgery). Good ...
