3days post-op... in good spirits
Hi everyone, Just checking in! I had an upper and lower jaw surgery this past Friday, Dec 1. I'm at home right now recovering. My face and cheeks are still swollen, numbness throughout the mouth area. I still can not talk. I'm wired shut. There is some pain at the incisions inside my mouth -- trying...

When I went to a private oral surgeon 6 years ago, he quoted me $25k, which includes all the fees and hospital stay. That's why I ended up not proceeding with the braces/surgery. I recently changed medical insurance companies, and the one I have now covers the surgery. I have to pay the co-payment, ...

Do I need to "bulk up" before surgery?
My surgery is on December 1, 2 months away. I am 5'7" and 120 lbs, which is on the thin side. I know that I will be losing weight after surgery since I will be wired-shut for 3 weeks and living on only liquid diet. I don't want to lose TOO MUCH WEIGHT. So my question is : (1) Should I "bul...

The quote I got was 1 yr braces, then surgery, then 1 yr braces. I have my braces on for 12.5 months and I am ready for surgery now. My surgery is 2 months away due to hospital scheduling, so I will be 14.5 months braced. I am still thinking 1 yr afterwards; if it's less, then yipee! OS can shorten ...

Yeah, I get nausea pretty often but not everytime something comes out. When I smell something unpleasant or when I cry a lot, I will feel like barfing... you know, that sense that something is trying to come up? :yuck: I will definitely bring this up and have some meds to prevent me from vomiting or...

Hang in there!
Hang in there! Yes, it does take a long time to get things moving along. I started the process in June 05 and didn't get braced until Sept 05, 3 months later.

My surgeon told me that I will be wired-shut for 21 days and I get nausea easily so this topic is one of my MAIN concern post-surgery. Where will the vomit go if I do end up barfing?? Is there any medicine that will make me not feel nausea? I read somewhere that soda such as Ginger Ale will help. An...

I noticed movement in the 5th day. THe initial results are usually very good, but after a while, you won't see much difference. I also used to get really sore with the adjustments, but after a while, I don't feel any soreness. Sometimes I wonder if the new wires are doing their job... why don't I fe...

Back from my 2nd adjustment and my ortho didn't have the smoke nor the light gray ligs!! I was so disappointed. I end up getting the the bone-colored ones, which I think will still stain like mad. My next adjustment is not until 9 weeks later, so I will have a tough time maintaining the ligs to be s...

Go to your dentist for his/her opinion and then go to an orthodontist (a couple of them) to get more opinions. In the first visit, the ortho should be able to tell you briefly if you need braces or not, the course of treatment, the length of treament, and the estimate cost. It is never too early or ...

Thanks for suggestions. I think I'll try the light gray ligs when I go in for my adjustment on Monday. I hope my ortho has them. Meryaten Thanks for your link. I enjoyed looking at the different color combinations. But I am never going to be that brave!! I still want my braces to be unnoticeable, if...

Yeah, that's a little excessive. You should let your mouth adjust. It usually goes away in 3-4 days. the tissue will toughen up. To save some money, you can ask your ortho for some wax packs. They usually give you a starter one, but you can always ask for more! For the amount of money you pay for br...

Need suggestion on Lig colors for Clear Ceramic brackets
I have upper clear ceramic brackets and want to find a lig color that won't stain. I want the color to be subtle but can't keep on choosing the tooth-colored or clear ones because I drink coffee and dark tea. Any suggestions? Unfortunately, my ortho don't have that many color choices. So the more su...
