don't worry. the post-op brace work with your orthodontist will solve a lot of the little problems. I had the same issue. The rubber bands will take care of the problem and guide the teeth to the correct position.

I am exactly 1 year post-op on a double jaw surgery and I still feel numbness on my upper left lip. Since it's been a while now, I am accepting the fact that this may be permanent. If it eventually goes away, great. If it doesn't, it doesn't really bother me. The positives always outweigh the negati...

My case may not be the norm, but I did not feel any major pain at all! The first couple of days, I used ice as recommended to reduce swelling. The ice also worked to numb the area so I couldn't feel anything. 3rd and 4th day, I begin to take liquid tylenol and that is only because I wanted to 'get a...

I am 5'7" and before surgery was 125 lbs. I lost 10 lbs after surgery to 115 lbs, which is on the thin side. Bones started to show. I'm 8 months post op and am eating normally. I've gained back 5 lbs.

Re: Worried about numbness after surgery!

Did you experience numbness? How bad was it? Did it prevent you from doing anything (eating, drinking, kissing, chewing gum, whistling, whatever....) Did you get full feeling back? How long did it take? If you hadn't gotten full feeling back would it have bothered you at all or is it something you ...

I had my teeth wired shut for 3 weeks, so that was how long my splint was in there for.

I took 6 weeks off so by the time I got back, I was OK. You will improve by the week -- since you're only 13 days post-op, you will do fine by the time you return. I eat at my desk most of the time, and eat soft foods that require little hassle. Always have a lot of napkins nearby so you can wipe yo...

I'm 7 weeks post-op and am not COMPLETELY satisfied with my new look yet. But I am glad to have finally gone through the surgery. The recovery is inconvenient, but not unbearable.

I think I would have to wait until my braces is out until I can decide if I'll be satisfied.

Hi Mart, Kudos to you for taking the first step. I was 30 when I first got braces although I was detected with an underbite problem back in my teens. I just went through double jaw surgery 7 weeks ago. I've detailed my braces and surgery story on my weblog. http://janniesjourney.blogspot.com/ You ar...

Yes, there were changes to my nose. Mine went up a bit because my upper jaw was moved forward and tilted. If it's just lower jaw, then it might not have any effects. Best to talk to the OS first.

Hey Spooky - you got a good doc! Mind you that's around the timeframe I heard for my OS to do a typical double jaw surgery too :) But how did you know exactly how long? Meryaten, these are the times that my OS told my husband when he talked to him (while I was out!). For this type of procedure, the...
