Re: SARPE Problems/Le Fort Solutions

Hi Ruby79, I am pretty much going through the same problem. During the expansion phase, my left palate expanded more than my right. My teeth tipped as well but I am unsure of how much. I can see that there is a tilt going on. I am still in rubber bands and praying it fixes everything. I looked into ...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Sadoozie did your docs say why they wanted to keep the RPE in longer? Mine are planning to remove it next week and I wonder if it will be fine. hereticx, I didn't really notice much changes in my face. I think my nostrils might be a little wider. Whatever changes do happen no one will even notice be...

Re: Bad jaw surgery result

I agree it's subjective. For one the pre-surgery photos are when the guy was 10-15lbs lighter before he started working out (he mentions this in his posts). I don't think his end result is that bad. I think he has just gained considerable weight and is masking his jaw structure. His SARPE didn't go ...

Re: Jaw Surgery For Cosmetic Reasons?

No surgery is 100% fool proof. You don't even know what you will look like after the surgery. Which means you really dont know if you'll like the way you look post-surgery more than you did pre-surgery. And I haven't even mentioned month long recovery times and liquid diets. Surgery isn't fun. If yo...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Yay lalacharlie I'm happy everything is working out for you!! I was worried. Everything is going well for me now too. Gap is almost closed and just started wearing diagonal rubber bands to fix left-right asymmetry. I just have to let time and the braces do their magic now.

Re: Issues chewing (especially on one side) 3 mos post op?

I have noticed after my SARPE that my left side feels stronger and more stable than my right so I tend to chew more on that side.
I'm guessing it will eventually go away once the bone has completely healed and feeling is back to normal.

Re: Does getting wires and Bands changed after surgery hurt?

Actually hurts much less because in the surgery nerves are severed so when you go back to the ortho for wire and bands changing your feeling in your teeth hasn't completely recovered. I found power chains to be painless as well but hurt like hell before surgery. This is really the only plus from sur...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Gkc, It very well could have widened but I would give it time to heal and everything to settle before judging. My nostrils didn't really widen from the surgery but it seems like there's a slight difference in tilt between them corresponding to the tilt I experienced during the palatal expansion. No ...

Mason/jinx,

Have you spoke with your surgeons about these issues? What did they say?

Re: SARPE Surgery

Periskir, as far as surgeries go SARPE is a simple one. It can be done in a dental office setting usually lasting less than 2 hours. Lalacharlie that doesn't sound good. Seems really soon to remove it. My docs aren't removing my expander until the end of June. Can you describe this bulge/ridge on yo...

Re: How long post SARPE did you get your TOP BRACES on?

Lucky for you that they are coming together! Mine are basically doing the same with a gap more at the top with a little persuasion from the power chain. How many mm did you end up expanding lalacharlie?

Yes for anatomical reasons. Some people get SARPE for cosmetic reasons such as a wider smile.

To get your upper teeth to match with your bottom teeth. It's to correct crossbite.

Re: SARPE Surgery

I want give you guys an update. I'm doing much better. I can eat a much larger variety of food as long as it is in bite size form. I'm still having trouble tearing foods, but I can chew a taco, pizza, etc. I still can't feel my teeth but I do feel more sensation in my upper jaw so I know that the ne...

Re: Optional SARPE. To get or not?

When more than 5mm of expansion is needed that's when they decide on SARPE over Lefort 1.
