Re: ...And they're off!
Hey, I am in the same situation as you! Permanent retainers top and bottom, and essix retainers to be worn nightly. I know that you want to wear the retainers as much as possible, but I just wanted to mention what my orthodontist told me: He said that if I put the retainer in very easily and don't f...

Re: Paranoia
Obviously it's different if you're already prone to having problems with your teeth, but when I had my lingual braces in, I never brushed after eating, never flossed, and ate any foods I wanted. I just used an interdental brush to poke out any bits of food that were stuck in the brace after meals, a...

Re: Orthodontist shaved bottom front teeth without telling me first
He did it once about 2 months ago and again about a month later. I got my braces off on July 9th. In that case that doesn't sound right at all. Is there a gap still left between the teeth then, if the midline was never fully corrected? I also don't think there should still be that much sensitivity ...

Re: Orthodontist shaved bottom front teeth without telling me first
I also had my bottom teeth shaved in between them to fix a midline. If your midline is a bit off, (like mine was), and there is also not enough room to be able to move the teeth around to centre it, the orthodontist will shave a space between some of the teeth, so that there is room for one "si...

Re: How long to get "used" to lingual braces?
Just take it day by day, and you'll get through it. :) I also had trouble getting enough calories, what I ate a lot of at the beginning was: a big bowl of mashed potato with a ton of olive oil and butter in it, lots of smoothies blended with fruits, oats, full-fat milk and nutritional powders, a ton...

Re: How long to get "used" to lingual braces?
Hi Holly, I will start by saying unequivocally: it gets better, and the first 2 weeks of having linguals will be the worst they ever feel, (and about 10x worse than they will ever feel again) for the rest of your treatment. For me, the tooth pain and eating problems were completely gone after about ...

Re: Fully braced
I am fairly sure that the more wonky your teeth the quicker the initial improvement Yes, I should have said this! To give an idea of the kind of progress I had, this was my teeth on day 1 of linguals, and after 1 month: http://i.imgur.com/0yMimXZ.png But Helen, that's fantastic that you're having s...

Re: Fully braced
Can already see movement and gaps in top after two weeks - wishful thinking maybe... I think you can definitely get quite a bit of movement at the start of having the brace! In my experience I got the fastest/most dramatic movement in the first few months of having linguals, before it slowed down a...

Oh that's really good that it eased off. But yes, mine did as well, and quite quickly too -- hence I completely forgot about this thread! I love the imagery of your dog though, I can just imagine it.

Re: Power chain = Power Lisp
I too had a power chain fitted to my upper linguals just yesterday, and have been feeling the lisp a bit more today -- so while I was happy to see this post, I'm afraid I can't answer your question just yet. However I've found that practising my "s" sounds and "hissing" while sit...

Re: Accidentally given the wrong braces
Do you think they are aware of their mistake or not? If they haven't realised, I would probably mention it to them just to be on the safe side. You don't want anything screwing up your treatment later on if they suddenly find out half way through. You can clear your conscience, and I would be really...

It's been a little while now, how are you doing flaav? Still getting the same problems, or has it improved at all?

Re: What is worse, uppers or lowers?
Yes I definitely think that's a good idea. :) And it's awesome to hear you're not suffering too much - well, maybe I've jinxed it before you've had your uppers put in though. As for the soft foods, I hope you don't get sick of them too fast; I know by day 7 I didn't want to look another yoghu...

Re: What is worse, uppers or lowers?
I also have WIN (had them fitted 2 months ago,) and it's awesome that you feel okay so far. :) From my experience the first 2 weeks after having the linguals fitted are the worst, (though I did have both sets put in at once,) but it's just as possible that you might be one of the lucky ones and have...

Re: How long to get "used" to lingual braces?
Those are all great ideas, thankyou! I had some mashed potato yesterday with a ton of butter, and about 6 tbsp of vegetable oil - not exactly healthy but at least I'm keeping the calories up!
