Re: ALF appliance to widen arches
Prob just a slight lisp alright. it's weird getting used to any foreign objects in your mouth but after a while it gets easier! The braces were harder to get used to as you can't just remove them like the ALF. Have you tried mouth taping while you sleep? It doesn't always work for me but I do it mos...

Re: ALF appliance to widen arches
Well I got some expansion and have more room for my tongue on my palette now. I had fixed braces for about 2 years after using the ALF but I still struggle with mouth breathing...thats why I'd recommend going with Bridget...its a lifelong habit that's hard to break so you need to constantly implemen...

Re: ALF appliance to widen arches
Hi Andyj
I went with Dr. Andrew Hatherall in North side dental.
I'd highly recommend speaking to Dr. Bridget O'Connor in Cork though, she's excellent and more focused on myofunctional therapy over regular dental practices.
Best of luck..

Re: Non-Surgical Palatal Expansion in Adults
Hi ruca2, thanks for sharing, you can really see some expansion from those photos!! How are you finding the device so far? I have an Alf for the last 2 months, I have a lisp with it and sometimes find it very sore against the roof of my mouth. My ortho strongly recommended proper tongue posture and ...

Re: tongue thrust.. getting rid of it before braces?
Hi there, I'm tying to correct my tongue posture and swallow also, it's def getting better but is gonna take a bit more time to become innate as I've been a mouth breather all my life and find myself slipping back into old habits regularly. Google myofunctional therapy you'll find loads of sites tha...

Re: Upper Palate expanding on one side?
Hi acoustic, yes that exact issue is really obvious from the moulds he took and he is hoping to widen the upper jaw with Alf device and correct this but my upper arch needs expanding also on both sides as its so narrow. Starting treatment at the end of the month so will keep you posted. As sirwired ...

Re: Any success with myofunctional therapy?
Thanks sirwired, Some people on the site appear to have had success with expansion but I suppose it's a very individual thing. I have loads more questions to ask my ortho now after finding so many posts from people with different experiences...it's been a revelation! Anyone else out there using myof...

Re: Thinning face update
Hi tartanhabit, Thanks for your response. Em yes the plan as he outlined is to use an Alf appliance and he said he is hoping to expand my upper arch from a very narrow 44 to 52 and that gaps would then appear between my teeth but that this is a good thing. I don't mind my actual teeth really it's ju...

Any success with myofunctional therapy?
Hi there, Has anyone tried this and if so has it been successful? I began reading up on this about 2 months ago and could identify straight away with being a mouth breather all my life. I have been very consciously trying to correct my tongue position and swallow ever since and researched a dentist ...

Re: Facial changes with braces (not that happy)
Hi kribbo, Really sorry to hear about your experience and all the other unhappy posts too. I'm shocked at how many people are unhappy during the treatment and after. What expectations did your ortho set for you? Did you notice unsatisfactory changes soon into the treatment? Have you told your ortho ...

Re: Upper Palate expanding on one side?
Hi acoustic, I have the exact same issue! My right side is narrower it's obvious when at rest as my lip snarls up on the right and my smile is crooked on that side, plus I have narrow arches in general also. Had a consultation last month and getting an Alf appliance fitted to widen arches and hopefu...
