Taking retainers off briefly

Occasionally I get peckish enough that I take my retainers off for a snack, especially if it's preventing me from sleeping. I'm supposed to wear my retainers 8 hours a day, ideally overnight during sleep. My question is, would taking the retainers off before 8 hours has elapsed reset this to any deg...

Dropped retainers

I accidentally dropped my plastic retainer case containing clear retainers (like the below) several feet onto a hard floor. Loud smack, the case lid opened but the retainers did not fall out. I'm wondering whether the pressure from the fall could have damaged the retainers? I put the retainers on my...

Re: Braces - US or UK?

Well I braced myself and did it. UK since it seems that's where I'll be for the forseeable future. Looking forward to having a straight set of teeth that should be easier to clean and not feel like a bunch of angry wrestlers in a crowded room.

speaking with lingual braces

About one week on and situation is improving but it often sounds like I have something in my mouth when I talk ... similar to how someone sounds speaking with gum or a little food in their mouth. Tongue also hits sharp points on the brackets depending on what I say, which can be distracting; unfortu...

Re: what food/snack on the 'no, no' list do you crave, but dont dare try eat?

If I weren't wearing braces now, I would say too many to list. But the weird thing is I soon stopped craving them after the braces went on. Mac and cheese (with more cheese than mac) and baby food have been surprising saviours - as I never really ate much of these before (especially the latter...). ...

Re: how much worse do bite turbos make trying to chew food?

Got lingual braces and bite turbos. I personally don't have any other combination to compare it with but I'm sure it's harder than eating with non-lingual braces and no bite turbos. I can barely chew so I have to force food down my throat like a snake. Grin and bare it! :)

Re: Braces - US or UK?

What do you mean by this? What goes on over in the US? A communal dental surgery?
In most US orthodontic offices (and many general dental offices too), there is a big room with several dental-chair workstations where all the patients are...

Re: Braces - US or UK?

I'm probably going to be living in the UK for the duration of the treatment. Planning to get lingual braces, which is almost £8k with an experienced orthodontist - around $12k. That seems expensive to move a few teeth around, but hey, gotta get that perfect smile.

Braces - US or UK?

I am a dual citizen of the USA and England, currently living in the latter. Considering all significant factors (results, cost, etc), which country would you recommend getting braces done in and why? Based on my research, it seems that braces are slightly more expensive in England given the exchange...
