Re: Linguals, acceledent, and impacted canines (oh my!)
Did you ever have your tongue getting caught in one specific place after an adjustment? Come to think of it, yes, except it happened at the start rather than after a later adjustment. I assumed it was because everything started off either rotated or crowded or not in the right spot and it caused un...

Fixed Retainers After Linguals
Normally, I guess these posts go in the Naked Tooth section, but I figured it's more specific to lingual braces and anyone doing linguals will catch it here and probably miss it there by the time you switch from braces to retention. Sorry for the long post. As you might guess, I was incredibly happy...

Re: Linguals, acceledent, and impacted canines (oh my!)
A lot of movement started after the first adjustment for me. It sounds like they did the same thing re-engaging the wire at your appointment. Same wire but different placement. The ortho told me that they initially just place the wire in a space/slot behind one of the tie wings, just to ease it in. ...

Re: Upper or lower - which is worse for speech?
I agree with Shelleyt. The uppers affected my speech much more than the lowers. The lowers mostly affected comfort over the first few weeks. If the uppers brackets that you already have haven't impacted your speech, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones to breeze through without any initial lisp.

Re: First day
Good luck! Except for the initial soreness from teeth being moved around, you might discover that it's more comfortable once there's a wire in. I always thought things felt smoother and more even with the wire in and the elastic ties providing a bit of a bumper effect. Whenever the wire was out, the...

Re: Random cleaning question
I always thought mid-day maintenance was less of a problem with linguals. First, they're on the inside, so no one sees things stuck between your brackets even if you can feel that it's there. Two, I think that WIN is much like Incognito in that the custom base of the bracket really covers most of th...

Hi Shelley - I assume you're asking me since OP mentioned that hers are incognito. Mine are also.Shelleyt wrote:Are yours harmony or incognito?

Re: Eating with Lingual Braces with Extractions
Hi - I can't speak to the extraction part, but I think many of us found it a challenge early in the process just to find any two opposing teeth that would meet. And once you find that magic spot, it will change the next month. It's not unique to linguals, although because of where they are on the fr...

Re: Getting started with braces
Congratulations and good luck! Lots of good changes going on with self and family! Finding out the sex of your babying is definitely the biggest news for you on Monday. The toddler and new arrival will keep you plenty distracted and focused on more important things during those initial annoying week...

Re: Choosing a treatment plan & ortho (invisalign vs. ceramic)
Hi - I'm sure that as long as you've found two good orthos for those consultations, the plans will all work and you'll get nice results. It seems there are always multiple ways to get to the same end point. Many of us are prone to overthinking and rehashing decisions. I've found in the past that whe...

Re: Third try at fixing my deep bite--This Wednesday
They're called elastomeric ligature guards. Definitely used to prevent teeth hitting ceramic brackets, which are harder than the tooth's enamel. Good luck!2XRound wrote:...more information or send a picture of those little bumpers they puit on yur lower brackets. They sound like a great idea.

Halfway there..... before rubberbands, which are coming next month.....VERY NERVOUS>>>> You're already half done after just six months? That's incredibly fast, but looking at the amazing progress I guess I'm not surprised. Just a bit jealous! Elastics with linguals can be interesting. Do you know i...

Re: Removing braces early?
Usually, when a post's opening line includes the words "against ortho wishes," my reaction is to "trust your ortho" if I haven't already stopped reading at that point. The fact that your surgeon thinks they should be taken off is pretty relevant, and it sounds like you wouldn't b...

Re: Can you clear something up for me?
I believe, generally, that the friction between the wire and the slot impacts the "sliding mechanics." Metal has lower friction, but some ceramic brackets (like Clarity reinforced) have a metal-lined slot to get the same low friction. If your plan required a lot of sliding along the archwi...

Re: Lower teeth soreness
Hi Juliet - Yes the lower linguals also aggravated my tongue more than the uppers did (uppers impacted speech more). It does go away, but even approaching two years with braces I still find that a tongue flare up happens every month or so toward the back, but those go away after maybe two days with ...
