Is it safe to fly 14 hours 4 weeks post-op?
All, Has anyone flown on a long (12+ hours) flight after surgery? I would be 4 weeks post-op at the point of the flight. My surgeon said I could do it, but it may be uncomfortable. I would be traveling alone, which makes me a little nervous. My energy levels are OK, but I'm not feeling 100% myself y...

Re: Having 3-Piece Le Fort next week
I don't recall liver function being on the list of side-effects for opiates. APAP (Tylenol), CAN effect the liver, but only when taken at amounts far higher than the prescribed dose. (This is a lower amount when combined with alcohol, but I'm assuming you haven't taken leave of your senses and deci...

Re: Having 3-Piece Le Fort next week
I had a two-piece a couple years ago... my tips: - Stay ahead of the pain; I don't have my logs any more, but I think I was off opiates by the time I had been home four days, and about 1 1/2 weeks to be totally off the (liquid) Advil. - The most annoying part wasn't the pain, it was the liquid, and...

Re: Having 3-Piece Le Fort next week
If the opiate painkillers are interfering with your bowel habits (this is a near-universal side-effect), take an OTC stool-softener like colace. (That's what I've been prescribed in the past for the same issue.) Thank you! I've started taking colace. The pain pills also seem to be giving me headach...

Re: Having 3-Piece Le Fort next week
Hi! I had a 3 piece lefort back in the beginning of June. Check out my threads from the June timeframe to read my entire story. In my experience, which could differ from anyone elses, I never had any pain, nor have I still almost 3 months post-op. I was given liquid oxycodone which I took the first...

Re: Having 3-Piece Le Fort next week
I'm 14 days into recovery from lefort and bsso. I did alot of prep before my surgery so my aftercare has been comfortable. I'm wired shut too. 1. Make sure you have someone who can be with you round the clock for the first 5-7 days, prepare you food, make sure you stay on schedule with all your med...

Having 3-Piece Le Fort next week
Hi all, As the subject says, I'm having a 3-piece le fort next week. It's been a long road and I debated this surgery for a long time. But I'm very glad to have come so far. I've been in braces for close to 15 months. I'm a little nervous about the recovery period, and especially the pain, but at th...

Re: Summer 2016 Surgery Buds
I'm getting a 3-piece LeFort 1 next week. Starting to get a little bit nervous, but after almost 16 months in braces, I'm excited to take another step towards putting this all behind me. The biggest concern I have is for recovery. I have the whole month of September to recover, but not sure how soon...

Re: Summer 2016 Surgery Buds
After 15 months in braces, looks like I will be going forward with a Lefort I 3-piece in late August. I'm so excited to get this behind me, but also very scared. I have never had surgery before and don't know what to expect. I'm also starting a new job in October, so hoping the 6+ weeks gives me ple...

Advice and thoughts on switching doctors mid-treatment
I am having upper jaw surgery to correct and underbite, and have been in braces for over one year. I went to a university clinic but have been very disappointed with my experiences. I was initially told my surgery would be in one year. But then, after 6 months in braces, I was told I'd be ready at 8...

Graduating 4 weeks after surgery?
Hi, I'm supposed to have my graduation from grad school about 4 weeks (give or take) after a 3-piece Lefort I. I'm a little nervous about how close the timing is but am wondering if others have felt comfortable, and had enough energy, to attend large events like this so soon after surgery. Thanks in...

Insurance Approved for Surgery
I just found out that UnitedHealthCare Oxford has approved my surgery. I'm thrilled, and a bit surprised. I was expecting a rejection, and a few appeals. But on the other hand, my bite is really terrible (and causes a lot of health-related problems), so I'm not too shocked. After years and years of ...
