Re: Struggling with post-op mood
How about rewarding yourself when you hit little milestones? That really helped me look forward to things. Hit the 4 week mark? Time for a new scarf. Managed to get out of bed? That deserves time at the nail salon. Hit the 8 week mark? Well that deserves some new shoes. If you mark it on your calend...

Re: Class 2 elastics...ouch
I had to wear double class 2 elastics at week 7. The first three days was very painful, more painful than the whole of surgery. I did what the above did and wore it almost 24 hours so the pain would subside quicker. I did my jaw stretches with them on too. By day 5 I was normal again. Hang in there!

Re: 2 days post op
Hi I am a side sleeper but my surgeon didn't OK me for side sleeping till 5.5 week. Until then I was sleeping with at least 25 degree angle. It's supposed to help with swelling and not put any pressure on the sides of the face.
It's been a week now. I hope you are feeling better!

Re: 2 days post op
Stay positive and keep your mind off the discomfort. Some people binged on Netflix shows while others just try to sleep through it. I played a lot of SPAMS so I didn't think about the discomfort. Set small goals for yourself to get through an hour or two and before you know it a week will be over an...

Re: March 2016 surgery buds
My nose widened a bit from what I can tell. My nose is also slightly turned up a bit. I too had some work done on my nose. My left nostril was always a bit blocked but I never saw anyone for it. During the surgery, my surgeon said that side was covered with polyps which explains the blockage. He cle...

Re: Jaws don't fit splint after surgery?
I am under the impression that the splint was made after your measurements pre surgery and that is where your teeth should fit in post surgery. As I said In a previous post, I didn't have to wear a splint at all just elastics. I think it's best you have a thorough talk with your team regarding this ...

Re: What i need jaw surgery or braces with extraction?
I would meet with surgeons as well. My ortho works with only one surgeons and she insisted I meet with them jointly so I am comfortable with the entire treatment plan. They were a package deal and I am at ease to know they are both on the same page when it comes to my care. while the ortho is import...

Re: Swelling and pain on eating on one side after 1 month
If they did a slight rotation it's going to be tender. For me I find that it was more difficult to open that side of my mouth wider than the other. sometimes taking a look at the X-ray will help you get a bearing on why your jaw might hurt as well. I always find that a certain area was slightly swol...

Re: Swelling and pain on eating on one side after 1 month
Your jaw muscle atrophied quite a bit during those weeks you were banded so pain is normal..... Later on you will enter the wonderful world of jaw exercises which will give you a whole new meaning of pain. Take things slow. Your muscles are also trying to move to where it used to be but cant so you ...

Re: How long did you have splint on?
Grats on getting past the three week mark. Hope you are doing better. i think splint varies with the clinician. I didn't have a splint at all. I was closed shut with 4 sets of elastics for about 3.5 weeks then double elastics for 2 then single elastics for 1 before I was completely free from it. If ...

No more elastic... What now?
Hi everyone, Thank you everyone for your encouragement about brushing inside. I have been getting more and more successful. I saw my surgeon today and have been given the OK to chew but because my mouth still isn't opened 1finger's width he suspects it will be at least another week before I can star...

Re: Can't sleep due to excessive saliva
Grats on getting to day 6. Drooling is normal. I think I drooled till about day 10-11. And when I say drool, I mean I drooled more than my baby. We even had matching bibs. Sleeping will be tough especially if you are a side sleeper (like me) but keep in mind it does get better. If it's easier...
