Re: Upper/Lower Jaw Surgery went VERY wrong...HeLp?!

I'm so sorry your upper and lower surgery went wrong. I'm 22 months post-op and can't feel the left hand side of my face; the tip of my nose is squint, and my smile is squint due to sensory and motor nerve damage. Most days I'm suicidal. I'm 40 years old and my job used to involve presenting in fro...

Re: Recovery from orthognathic surgery before you can talk again

I'm on day 42 and I still can't talk normal. The muscles around my mouth are contracted and my tongue is in a different position. It takes a while to get back to normal. Thanks for letting me know your experience! How long did it take before it wasn't too painful to talk? Can people understand you ...

Re: January 2016 Surgery Buddies!

I'm on day 32 and still have my splint, I get it out in 4 days... I still have pain here and there along w twitching pain. I sure hope I can have soft foods after that... How far can y'all open your mouths? I'm barely able to get 1 finger in so I'm hoping I can start exercising to get it opened far...

Re: January 2016 Surgery Buddies!

Day 43 Update: Swelling: I'm still a little bit swollen, probably I have 20% of swelling left in my cheeks and around my nose. Numbness: 60% of my chin is coming back slowly, the right side of my lower lip is also coming back. The rest of the chin and lower lip are still numb. Asymmetry: Eventually ...

Re: January 2016 Surgery Buddies!

Day 38: Just had dinner. I ate smoked salmon, pasta, strawberries and a yogurt (not a great mix but who cares). First time I attempted such a stunt and I think I pulled it off successfully (I have no pain in my jaws). I was tired of the liquid diet, my surgeon said to wait another 4 weeks to eat sof...

Re: After how long you regained feeling in the lower lip?

Thank you all! My chin is getting all tingly but my lower lip is almost dead...just some pins and needles sensation mostly during the night but nothing else. I'm worried because I suck at kissing with a numb lip. Today I tried to kiss a mirror and my god if it felt weird. No feeling at all. I hope w...

Re: January 2016 Surgery Buddies!

Day 17: I want to eat...I hate liquids, ensure, protein shakes, smoothies, chicken broth ecc. My surgeon said he won't change my elastics for another 2 and a half months!! So basically he wants me to be banded shut completely with heavy elastics for 3 months straight. I don't know if he's crazy or ...

Re: 8 months post op thinking revision

I'm 31 days after double jaw surgery and I can understand you. As the swelling goes down my face looks asymmetrical and my nose is a bit crooked. My profile looks better than before, but from the front I liked my old self better. My surgeon is also very egocentric and intolerant to critics so I don'...

Re: January 2016 Surgery Buddies!

It's day two since double jaw surgery and I'm feeling quite well. I'm not on painkillers since yesterday and I'm only taking antibiotic. Surgery lasted 4 hours and the night after surgery was tough...I fainted twice and they had to put a catheter on me because I couldn't go to the bathroom....it hur...
