I know how you feel about running for the pliers. Try being woken up at 3 o'clock in the morning with worst tooth pain ever. But I am still here and so are my braces. You can do it too.

Hang in there! The irritation will lasts couple of days but wax can help a little. The pain goes away too. Listen to me talking, I said exactly the same like you and I was tempted to cut the wire on the first night. Get strong painkillers and eat soft food for few days.

It is not just the stains. After my braces were put on I felt like my mouth was never clean enough.
I found solution that works for me. I brush my teeth as normal, then I have a good go with bicarbonate soda and after that some pearl drops polish. Feels much cleaner after that and no stains yet.

For sores I found something that works wonders. It's made in England so i don't know who can get hold of it outside the borders but you can look for simmilar stuff if not.
It is called ADCORTYL in ORABASE and has 0.1% Triamcinolone Acetonide as an active agent.
