Re: a post about how much (or really how little) people notice when you get braces
I think the only people who notice are ones who have had braces or currently have them. I work in retail as a part timer and whenever I see a person with braces I ask them how much longer and what issues they originally needed to correct. We talk about colors and the pain of course. It's a nice conv...

Re: how many teeth show when you smile?
I had a crossbite so only 6 teeth showed when I smiled. My braces come off next March/April and I currently have 10 showing when I smile (not forcefully). It depends on the person ... Some people have a lot of gums, I don't. My orthodontist told me not to worry about a celebrity's smile or standards...

Re: Terrified about the look of braces.
I got my braces last September when I was 23, and I always knew I wanted color but I was weary of colors that would make my teeth look less white (I am obsessed with the shade of my teeth). My first ligatures were a sapphire blue. Then I got lilac, navy, violet, aqua (my absolute favorite) and now I...

Re: Just got my powerchain, ouch.
Haha, the first thing they do is give me the ring of colors to fiddle with while they remove the ligatures. If you're getting a powerchain go for a fun color whether bright or dark. Since it is literally an elastic chain, there is more visible surface area and the colors look even better! My favorit...

Re: $125 for an initial consultation - WHOA!
In my opinion, it's a consultation so it should be free. They're making money off a provided service/treatment not vice versa. My consult was free, included photos, filing of paper work, meeting with the treatment coordinator where I got the exact price of treatment, and an extensive chat with two o...

Re: How aften are your adjustments?
I see my orthodontist every three months. I asked them why so spaced out and they said they wanted to give the teeth time to settle to avoid damage, and something about having a smart wire.

Re: 5 weeks in and teeth look way worse! Is this normal?!
As my orthodontist would say, "Gaps are a good thing. It means your teeth are moving." I had overcrowding as an issue but even I developed gaps. Your teeth are merely moving and making room for the other teeth. Don't worry because a powerchain will close all of those gaps just you wait and...

Re: how long until you could chew food?
It depends but I'd say about two weeks to nibble. And three to really eat normally again.

Re: What do you eat?
A lot of jello, mashed potatoes, and soup. I practically swallow my food like snakes do on TV because it hurts if I accidentally click my teeth. I don't eat anything that involves biting at all.

Quoted for 18 months. They looked amazing at 8 months already. I am almost 14 months in. :)

Re: gums too close to bracket?
The brackets on my molars look like that as well. But I read your gums should recede slightly once they're off when your gums are not constantly stimulated anymore.

Yeah, happened to me, too. Sometimes your front teeth might slant outward or inward and your molars can do that, too. But it does get better.

Re: when did you realize you wanted to get your smile fixed?
I first wanted them when I was about 12 but my dentist basically said all that mattered was dental hygiene and having healthy teeth, which is right to a certain extent. I ended up having a slight crossfire, overcrowding, my lower midline was off a few mm's and some of my teeth were wearing down prem...
