NHS vs Private
I am being treated on the NHS currently and have had braces on for 16 months, I have joint clinic tonight to discuss my treatment plan and hopefully get a date for the op. I have private health care through my employer which wouldn't pay for orthodontics but MAY pay for surgery. I need upper jaw imp...

Re: How much help after double jaw surgery?
Thanks for your reply! Pre cooking meals is a great idea, lasagne, cottage pie, things that older one can pop in the oven. I was thinking of sending them to their dad for a week post op which would leave me all alone. I should survive though I am guessing? I will stock up on smoothie ingredients and...

How much help after double jaw surgery?
I am in the process of orthodontics leading towards double jaw surgery and genioplasty some time in the next six months. It's been a long journey and my circumstances have changed to such that I no longer have reliable support for after surgery. My kids are 12,9 and 5, the older two take little effo...

Re: First post braces meal
I have been eating lots of things that I shouldn't have been but I am looking forward to eating things without a knife and fork! Pizza, I am just going to tear right into it! Sandwiches, no more ripping bits off and popping them into my mouth. I will go to town on sweets and popcorn and doritos and ...

Re: Wwhat questions do YOU usually ask your ortho?
I usually ask what are we doing today. My orthodontist is lovely but doesn't offer up information freely and is reluctant to give even approximate timings. He is working wonders with my mouth though so I will forgive him anything!

Re: Braced yesterday, anyone else's first archwire look as crazy as this?
I was really shocked when I saw my first wire. All the googling I had done and I just thought that I would have a nice straight wire going round. I hated how it looked at first. I had a nice straight(ish) wire by the first adjustment though, the initial changes happen really quickly.

Re: How long before I see any progress?
I saw progress about a month in but when I compared my 4 month picture with my before picture I was amazed. Because the progress happens a little every day it is hard to notice unless you have a before picture to always refer back to.

I have a different colour each time, it's one of the very few perks. I highly doubt they add bacteria!

Re: How often do you have your teeth Cleaned?
I am booked in for a clean and have been braced for 6 months. One corner of my mouth has a disgusting plaque build up, it's really gross. I have no idea why just that one side!

Re: doesn't 1 year of braces seem like forever?
I have had mine for 6 and a half months so far and it has flown. The changes have really amazed me so far which I suppose makes the time go quicker? I think I need two to three years treatment in total but going by how quickly things have moved I don't know what could take so long!

Re: Wisdom Teeth Removal - is it necessary?
I had my wisdom teeth removed (I only actually had 3 for some reason) 3 months before I even had my brace fitted. I will hopefully be getting double jaw surgery in about 18 months time.
I Haven't noticed any difference in my face at all.

Re: BRACES AND TIME OFF FROM WORK
I had mine put on, on a Wednesday morning and went to work straight after. I struggled to talk at first but I soon got used to it.
