Re: January - March 2017 Surgery Buddies

Hey All! I'm 4 days post-op and still struggling with "eating" because everything seems too thick and to just get trapped in my mouth. Water goes down easy but the soups and smoothies not so much. I almost feel like when I eat, the liquids fill up my sinuses and clog me up so it feels unco...

Re: Not Allowed to Use Ice / Heat at Home

I was also told not to bother with ice after the first few days; that it wouldn't speed up the swelling going away. I followed what the surgeon said and stopped icing after the first few/several days. Took like a year for the swelling to totally go away. Maybe more. I don't think icing would have h...

Not Allowed to Use Ice / Heat at Home

Hey everyone! I just finished my pre-op consults with my surgeon as my surgery will be in three weeks. I asked him about using ice packs and heat to help with swelling and discomfort once I get home after 2 days in the hospital, and he said not to  I was a little surprised by this (I already ...

Re: January - March 2017 Surgery Buddies

I'm scheduled for surgery on February 7th to include upper, lower, turbinate reduction, septoplasty, genioplasty, and wisdom teeth removal. My surgeon's office is submitting the paperwork to my insurance for pre-authorization now so as long as all goes well with that, I'm one month out  Curi...

Re: January - March 2017 Surgery Buddies

I go in for lower jaw surgery tomorrow, Jan 10th! I'm a little nervous about the liquid diet thing, I haven't really prepared for that at all besides the first few days with broth and ensure... Wish I still lived near my parents.. I'm 32 and I need my mom  Good luck, buttersnacks! I'm sure you...

Nose Frida for Post Surgery Congestion

Hi! I've mentioned on here before that the intense nasal congestion that typically accompanies double or at least upper jaw surgery, freaks me out. I battle congestion almost daily but have comfort in knowing that I can blow my nose and/or at least good air from keeping my open wide, all of which ca...

Insurance Research Process & Recommendations

Hi! I will be having double jaw surgery early next year, and am starting the process of gathering information on insurance coverage. So, I was wondering what process you all used to determine what would be covered / not covered? I have the CPT codes and the related medical policy for insurance cover...

Re: Getting braces in two weeks- very nervous

I'd echo that. I was numbed up for the extractions and didn't feel anything, other than the pressure that wasn't bad. My teeth were out in about 20-25 minutes, and then I sat with gauze over the extraction sites for a bit while they went over the post-op instructions. I was very nervous about the ex...

Re: Getting braces in two weeks- very nervous

Hi Spree! I had 4 premolars extracted last Friday and I'm getting my braces on tomorrow morning. An eventful one week for my teeth! I'm not nervous yet, maybe I'm in denial haha. But the fact that I have the extraction gaps is making me anxious for the braces because I know the sooner I get them on,...

Re: DC Area Jaw Surgery Buddies

Wow, you're inspiring to me just for being where you are in the process (it takes a lot of patience)! My projected surgery date is Spring 2017. I'll be getting bicuspid extractions next week, and then braces in 2 weeks. It seems like such a long road ahead. I'm in the Northern VA area, but my ortho ...

"Go To" Meals After Bracing, Adjustment, or Extractions

Hi Everyone! I was wondering what are the most common go-to foods after initially getting braces, having an adjustment, or getting extractions, essentially good foods to eat when you are sore/in pain along the orthodontic journey. Some that I have seen on here are: Mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, pro...

Re: Before/after pics of class 2 jaw surgery

Did any of the class II bites on here get bicuspid extractions prior to the surgery? If so, were there any complications/regrets with your extractions? Just curious since there is a good amount of controversy about these extractions and potential negative side effects.

Thanks!

Re: Did you choose metal braces, or an alternative and why?

I agree that it's definitely a personal choice, and I've gone back and forth on it a couple times. I haven't gotten my braces put on yet (appt in 3 weeks), but I'm ultimately choosing ceramic for a few reasons. I had metal braces previously from age 6 to age 11 (i'm 28 now) and decided to try someth...
