6 of mine were grey and 2 were almost clear (they were smaller in diameter due to the tight space between teeth).

As far as pain goes--I had a bit the first day, but went back to eating normal food the rest of the time in spacers. It just felt like a piece of steak between teeth.

ShinyAM--are you using one with a key (Haas type) or a quad helix (W-Arch)? What was your diagnosis? How old are you if I can ask?

Honestly, spacers are a breeze!! I had them for a week at a time twice, since I had bottoms and tops put on at different time. They just feel like you have something stuck between your teeth (and no, not like a log is between them--just a piece of steak). And I had tight spaces, so they had to reall...

Non-Surgical Rapid Maxillary Expansion--Why not??

Dr J--I hope you can clue me in here. My ortho says that the use of a device such as a W-Arch as you describe (Quad Helix) can't be used on adults (male, 33) because in a number of years down the road, their will be substantial gum recession and movement of teeth lingually after being shifted throug...

Jaws--I would really be interested in finding out from you how old you are (approximately, if necessary), and what your ortho says about any possibility of your gums receding or any future problems 20-30 years from now. I keep asking my ortho about it and he told me that it would be ok for 20-30 yea...

TERTIA--I FEEL YOUR PAIN!! I had my bottoms put on (ceramic uppers, metal lowers) a week ago and I am still suffering, but getting by!! I have gone through an inordinate amount of wax, and it is a MOUTH SAVER!! If you get sores, Peroxyl mouth rinse is a great thing too. I have been on a soup and cre...

Braces get tight on Bottom when yawn--This is UNCOMFORTABLE!

OK Folks, help me out!! I got my bottoms braced Tuesday, and since then, when I yawn or open my mouth wide, the bottom braces seem to tighten up. I have metal brackets, with two spaces where bicuspids were 2 weeks ago. Nothing fancy right now (ligs, no powerchains at the moment). It seems that if I ...

Jodster, did they pinch the cleat with a pair of pliers to make it as minimal as possible? I read that they sometimes forget to do that, and that's just what they did when I had my lowers put on. So I asked and was very glad I did. If the assistant didn't do this for you then it could be fixed-up p...

Got bottoms braced the morning of 8th, and am not having the best of times right now :( I have a sore on the side of my tongue from the cleat on the band and the outer portion of the band is digging into my cheek!! I am going through a stick of wax each time I put it on (for all of my mouth) and I h...

Gel-- I feel your pain!! I had my 4 pulled just 2 weeks ago, and one week later I had spacers put on the bottom and had my bottom braces put on 48 hours ago. So from one who has had all of this done recently, the spacers are a breeze compared to the pain/suffering after the extractions. I was ...

I had my bottoms put on yesterday, and had to return to the ortho at 4:30 to have them file the "cleat" or removal lug as they referred to it (I prefer cleat, since I already feel like I have a hubcap in my mouth). :( I am curious if any of you had such a hard time with the cleat cutting y...

I got my bottoms put on yesterday and I too have noticed that my bite totally changed once they attached the wire. So much for a steak tonight!! Has anyone experienced a mangled tongue due to the "removal lugs" on the inside of their band on their molars? What have you done to remedy it?!?...

I just had 4 of my bicuspids (pre-molars) out today, and it took FOREVER for the bleeding to stop!! I was changing the gauze every 10 minutes for the first two hours, and then about every hour for another 3 hours! I didn't know dental offices opened so early, because I was on laughing gas at 7 AM. L...
