I have a similar situation to you Montessor, and I have been braced on top since early september. I currently have a powerchain to close gaps from extractions and to move the canines enough so that the ofending tooth can turn enough to be attached to the wire. I don't have any springs thankfully, an...

One thing that I take on a daily basis, even if I don't have any sores is L-Lysine. It is in the vitamins/minerals section of your grocery store or pharmacy and it is an amino acid supplement for improving skin's appearance and healing properties. My ortho reccomended it and I used to take it when I...

I would hold off on the combination of the baking soda/lemon juice. The citric acid in the lemon juice is known to cause enamel decay, and with braces, could cause the enamel to seperate from your teeth (and of course the bracket as well). Sorry to ruin your bubbly fun, but thought you might like to...

I have an interplak, and though it didn't die, it suddenly lost ALOT of it's power, so a 7 now pulsates like a 3 or 4. I am going to get a Waterpik!!

I can totally attest to the use of L-Lysine as a supplement while you are in braces. It has really helped me and I have noticed a considerable drop in the number of ulcers I have now as opposed to in the first month or so. Also, the Peroxyl really helps, but you can rinse with straight peroxide and ...

Weirdest Adjustment yet

OK, since we are talking about disappointing adjustments, tell me this. I thought I was ready for an upgraded, stronger wire on top since my gaps are filling slowly (too slowly in my opinion). So they change the ligs, and put a new powerchain between banded molar and premolar to help fill extraction...

Jessie-- I have had braces now for almost 3 months, and I meet new people everyday in my job as a fundraiser. I have heard nothing but compliments on doing this at my age (33) and some of them even say that they wished that they had the courage to do it. I'd say way to go to you for taking this step...

a color that works very well for staining is called smoke. It looks grey, but when stretched onto brackets is almost clear, and they resist staining.

Dr. J's Further Explanation

Dr. J--thanks so much for the further explanation of the reasons behind not wanting to use expanders to flare teeth. I now completely understand in a technical sense why my ortho kept talking about the relapse that would occur in the future if he tipped my molars to correct my cross bite. With all t...

Interdigitation

by this do you mean the fitting of the cusps together (top and bottom)? If I were to provide pictures prior to treatment would you be able to comment even more intelligently than you already have?

Dr. J--thank you for your candidness and professional response. I guess I will need to thoroughly rely on his (my ortho) professional opinion. I just don't like the crossbite and SARPE is not a possibility in my mind. It isn't bad, I just wish that it was correctable with something besides surgery, ...

I am really going to push my ortho for a reason that he doesn't want to use an arch expander. Is your ortho younger (less than 40) or older?

thanks....
